So I am a newbie. Started Keto end of November 2017, with much skepticism. Now I am a total believer. I have been a borderline diabetic for a few years. I monitor my BS (blood sugar) on my own, am on Metformin (hoping to stop one day) as well. My last A1C went up to 6.1 (had been low 5’s in the past). Weight kept creeping up and I swear it was cemented on me.
I did what many of you may had done. Joined Weight Watchers a million times, Whole 30, Jenny Craig, diet pills… It did not work for me. A few pounds here and there only to put more back on. I do exercise, had a very physical job (floor nursing…15,000 steps an 8 hour shift!) and still no weight loss. I ate what everyone would call “healthy”.
I got a new position at work in June 2017. I was blown out at the amount of patients having side effects from Type 2 Diabetes. My career had been working in Maternal Child Health, so this was new for me. There are people younger than me and they have the health of someone 30 years older than them…who had a bad life style. Slowly, heart disease, organs are affected, infections, eye problems on and on. Pills and insulin are not the only answer for everyone. This was my turning point. I realized I DO NOT want to end up like the patients I saw. Hence, here I am.
I have lost 12 lbs since the end of November 2017. But must mention that I got a horrible flu for about 4 days and food was not a priority. I have fasted a few 24 hours here and there and know I need to do more, but it was actually easy. I am never hungry, not thinking about my next meal, and don’t crave the crap (simple carbs). I can’t believe how much better I feel. Cannot wait till my doctor sees me…ha I’m living proof of the Keto life style.
I so appreciate the podcasts from the 2 Keto Dudes and IDM (Dr. Fung). I have learned so much. I’m excited to be part of this community!! Happy New Year!!
