Keto Las Vegas

(Chris Gill) #1

Hi guys, im heading to Vegas in 4 days time. I have been on keto for around 7weeks.

I had all intentions of trying to stay on keto for the duration of my trip, however as its a stag party, there will alcohol. I made the desicion to come out of keto for the week and start again when i am home.

Are you supposed to come out of keto slowly? or does it not really matter? Will i feel ill?

I dont want to experience any Keto hangovers while im over there

Just go cold turkey. Its how I started as a newly disgnosed T2DM with BG roller coaster between 200-300 for six weeks. I went zero carb cold turkey and never looked back.

Just keep in mind you will most likely deal with carb withdrawals or keto flu again. But it should be easier. Just remember if you feel it coming on, up your salt intake a bit.

I did something similar one weekend. Had pizza for two days. Did so with full anticipation of getting knocked out of ketosis. I wasnt worried. I knee this easnt going to be a weekly thing so I didnt let it stress me out. I just went right back into the swing of things. It took about a week before my urine began to show ketones again at even a trace. But again, I expected that.

Just dont make it a regular habit and your body will thank you. :cowboy_hat_face:

i fully intend to get back on keto when im home.

I just didnt know if having been on keto, and then consuming alot of carbs will make me bad?

Naughty keto man! Seriously you should try to keep eating as low carb as you can and stick with hard alcohol avoiding beer. You could stay in ketosis, probably not a real efficient state of ketosis but will avoid the carb crash that’s going to likely happen. You’ll feel better on your trip this way and avoid the carb crash which might make the trip less enjoyable. Plenty of meat, salads and vegetables available in Vegas. Prime rib buffets and such. Have a great time. :cowboy_hat_face:

I live in Vegas and eat out quite a bit. It’s easy to find plenty of Keto options. I agree with the above comments, try to stick as closely to it as possible. Most alcohol without mixers are 0 carbs but be aware that your body may metabolize the alcohol quicker. That being said, just have fun and accept whatever decision you make as far as your eating/drinking goes. You can get back on the horse after the party.

Thanks, i plan on drinking beer though as i will be smashed on spirits.

The eating im not too bothered about to be honest, i can pick and choose what i eat.

If im in keto and drink large amount of carbs or eat a Chinese, will my body experience and side effects from having a high amount of carbs when it isnt used to carbs?

Just my opinion, but if you’ve followed Keto for 7 weeks without cheating, I would expect you to have some serious digestive issues if you suddenly start consuming large amounts of grains and sugar/starches, put something like beer into the mix…I personally wouldn’t want to set myself back at nearly 2 mo in, are you sure you feel it’s worth it?

…and don’t be like a sailor who missed his last shore leave, and feels he needs to make up for it.

Just have fun and get right back to Keto when it’s all done, BUT, try being a little mindful to the choices you make.

2 weekends ago I had alcohol and ate badly over the course of 24 hours and gained 10 lbs of mostly water weight, took exactly 7 days to get back to normal, so just keep in mind you might see some scary things on the scale but it resolves fairly quickly. Was it worth it in my case? No, but it was correctable.
