Keto haters - what to say to them?

My own life has been saved by surgeons.

But they aren’t ā€œgodsā€ and they are products of their training at the time they graduated. And pill pushers who have hard-sell tactics to boost their profits!

I’ve been told oh don’t stay on this.it’s a quick fix…not perm. I’m like uh no its a lifestyle change.I’ve been more successful on this than gastric bypass 11 yrs ago. Just do ur thing n to heck with them

@Alecmcq - that was the lightbulb moment for me. Also, I think it’s incorrect when people say that your metabolism is ā€œwreckedā€ or ā€œdamagedā€ or ā€œbrokenā€ when it’s lowered. No, it’s just lowered. That’s what it’s supposed to do in the presence of a prolonged calorie deficit. Variability is a functional adaptation. At least that’s how I’ve come to think of it.

@Janie

Re-reading my original post, I fear I was too terse. I’m not picking on you and I apologize if I offended you.

(Jane) #146

Not offended at all, but thanks!

Spreading the word of keto to the unreceptive is like trying to prop up a drowning person in the middle of the ocean.
They are far more likely to take you down with their floundering than to calmly accept your assistance.
Sure, I wish I could make all my friends & loved ones understand about insulin resistance & chronic disease.
When they ask, I’ll be happy to tell them.
But until then, I try to remember that a drowning lifeguard isn’t any good to anyone.

Thanks Brenda. Did I ever tell you I love ladies who ride motorcycles halfway across the country for Ketofest?

ā€œOnly waterā€ how I hate that phrase! I always want to say, you were calling it fat before I lost it!

(Linda) #155

Good one. I lost 50 pounds of water. I guess that’s why I leave little puddles wherever I walk. (Old lady stress incontinence aside!)

My family has been on tenterhooks waiting to hear the results of my mother’s biopsy for pancreatic cancer. After receiving the lab results, the clinic scheduled an appointment ā€œto discuss optionsā€ Two Weeks in the future. When it became clear that my mother still didn’t know ā€˜options For What’, I finally called and started harassing people about the whereabouts of the test results, which did not show up on the patient portal. They responded with this gem: ā€œWe didn’t want to reveal to your mother that she didn’t have cancer, because we were afraid she wouldn’t come in for her consultation.ā€ (which is now basically unnecessary because she doesn’t have cancer, and can be treated by her family physician.) Evolution? Maybe. Unconscionable? Without a doubt.

(Linda) #157

Sometimes I don’t think they have the foggiest notion of how they sound to their patients, or how they would feel if it were them in the same position. WTF is wrong with these people?

(karen) #158

First off, thank you all for the support of my mother’s issue with her doctor / clinic.

The follow up is almost as bad. She went to this (unnecessary) appointment. Still not feeling well and has a temp around 100 that won’t come down. She had to cancel a trip she’d booked because she felt so crap, and also because of this appointment. Fortunately she has trip insurance. When Dr. Asshole hears that she wants to do follow up visits to monitor the Asshole Clinic-prescribed antacid prescription (yes, that’s all she got after all this and an obviously ongoing infection, a prescription for Pantoprazole) with her own PCP in town instead of The Asshole Clinic 90 minutes away from her house (she doesn’t drive that far any more), Dr. fills out and signs the trip insurance paperwork, to say that there’s no reason my mother couldn’t have gone on the trip. If someone’s looking for a bombing target to protest poor / uninformed medical protocol bordering on malpractice, poor corporate organization, and blatant elderly patient manipulation/punishment for profit, I have a suggestion.

OMG…I thought my mother’s doctor was bad!

(back and doublin' down) #160

I’ll be using this phrase, and if I remember, will give you credit!
Thanks!
