Hello Ketogenic Forum,
I’m Omar a 38 y/o married, father of 4 (all girls, youngest are twins) and self-proclaimed “career fat kid”.
I’ll hit the high points of my story so not to bore the crap out of all of you. I’ve been over weight most of my life aside from a few years in college where I was very competitive martial artist and youth martial arts teacher. So I was highly active to say the least. This led to getting seriously entrenched in the “see food diet”. Which was ok as long as my training volume was through the roof. When I transferred to university to study engineering so my activity level plummeted but my eating (& drinking) stayed high or even increased. Ooops. This continued into starting my career and until I hit my highest weight of 285lbs @ 5’7" mostly fat.
Scrubbing ahead, I met a life long friend who encouraged me to make better food choices and start lifting. I found a love for resistance training and was able to drop 65lbs! After completely changing my body I was enticed by the idea of physique competitions (bodybuilding) which led me to a low carb/ketogenic like way of eating! Of course I did it all wrong drastically cutting carbs AND fat. Out of sheer luck it worked for me and I was able to get into the absolute best shape of my life, but it was completely unsustainable. After an injury I let it all slip away ballooning back to 265lbs.
In 2014 I decided that I would be fit by 40 and make 40 better than 30! I started eating better (still carb eater), dived back into to resistance training (more powerlifting focused) and starting yoga! I toiled away barely shedding any weight and nearly no bodyfat until deciding January 1, 2017 that I would go back to what worked BUT using more of my analytical side and do some serious research before taking the plunge this time. Now, day 66 of intelligent keto, I’ve lost 16lbs, dropped a pants size and reached unused holes in my belt!
I recently found the 2 Keto Dudes podcast which led me here. I’m super excited that they left FB and started a forum since I’m not a FB member. Well I intended to keep this brief, but that is a deficiency that has always plagued me! Thanks for treading through this post!
Excited to follow your progress. I’ve been keto for over 2.5 years and plan to stay that way forever! You’ve come to the right place.
