I’m starting my 4th work on the keto diet. I’m down 13 pounds. I’m feeling really tired though. I’m taking electrolytes and supplements. Is it normal to still be tired? I’m worried it will never go away.
Keto Flu - how long
I had it for 2 weeks, full on the first week then easing off. Feel absolutely indestructible now though and so glad I stuck it out. You will be too
I was tired for longer and had to go to bed early which helped a lot. But now I get less sleep than ever but no bad effects
A friend of mine also suffered from tiredness and we discovered she was not eating enough fat. Adding in another keto coffee / BP Coffee helped raise her energy levels.
Personally I didn’t suffer from tiredness until I was fat adapted because I over ate fat in fear of hunger.
I am maybe answering this question with another question. Doesn’t the Keto flu vary based on how many carbs you were eating a day before starting this WOE? I had already been eating somewhat low carb. I found the flu symptoms only lasted around 3 days. I thought this was maybe because it took less long to clean out my glycogen stores (someone smarter than I am can confirm this or tell me this is off base!) Hang in there! I am also a Newbie, but the Keto flu does end! I gave myself permission to go to bed early, take naps, and do minimal physical activity. Drink plenty of water. Whatever it takes to get through it. I wish you the best!
That makes a lot of sense! I was not low carb at all before so it is a drastic change from what I was eating before. Thanks! That makes me feel better!
Yes, with coconut oil and cream. Coconut oil is high energy fast releasing fat and boosts you when feeling tired.
I used to have 2 or 3 every day to fight off tiredness and keto flu. This sort of fix is only needed in the initial stages of the diet, now fully fat adapted I rarely have the need to boost energy with BPC.
I think I was tired for many weeks. I just know I don’t get tired any more.
It’s probably beating a dead horse but most people cannot comprehend consuming 5-7 grams of sodium per day. Not 5-7 grams of salt but 5-7 grams of sodium. From what I can tell a very minute percentage of people new to keto are consuming enough sodium. Get out a teaspoon and some of your favorite salt, read the label, and measure out what the equivalent of 5-7 grams of sodium would look like. Are you consuming that much or more daily? More if you sweat a lot? My guess is maybe not.
I bought sodium chloride tablets. They are 1gram per tablet. They have been a wonderful addition! I feel SO much better now! I find I have to take three per day to reach a little over 5grams a day.
Salt (sodium chloride) is roughly 40% sodium (and 60% chloride). So 5-7 grams of salt is only about 2-3 grams of sodium. And that ain’t a lot. I feel good at about 10-12 grams of salt per day.
