Keto Fatigue

(Patricia ) #1

Hello Everyone!
I’m very new to Keto. Just started a little over a week ago. I’m still transitioning from grain fed - fed-lot meat to Pastured grass-fed meat. So far I started with pastured Duck, duck eggs, Lamb and Turkey. I will be making the transition to grass-fed beef next week.
I’m having 3 meals a day and a small snack in the afternoon. My digestion has been great! I am not feeling hungry - which is unbelievable and the best feeling ever! However, my only concern is, I’m feeling exhausted and very moody. Is this normal? How long can I expect it to last? I didn’t experience major flu symptoms as I gradually cut down on carbs. But the fatigue is really weighing me down. I just started taking Magnesium. Should I be taking more vitamins?

salt maybe?

Yes, salt/electrolytes. But it’s not abnormal to be tired while your body adapts. Soon you will feel a surge in energy… give it time.

It can take up to 2 weeks for all the enzymes and hormones to change. Remember you are asking your body to change everything and it takes time. Also you need a lot more salt now, when you eat carbs your kidneys hang on to the salt and now they won’t. You probably noticed you are urinating more? So try a half teaspoon of sea salt in a glass of water in the morning and don’t hold back in your meals.

Good luck, you’ll get there.

Grass Fed and Organic is not a Keto Rule. They are not necessary, and the added expense may cause some people to eat less meat and fat. At this stage, do not count calories or limit food. Just follow the macros and eat all you want in order to ease the adaptation process.

Watch some of Dr, Phinney’s Youtube videos, he says there is an extra need for salt in Ketosis. I have 1 to 2 cups of bouillon made from cubes, even add Olive oil and/or MCT powder. Looks funny with the MCT, but tastes the same.

Keep it simple, buy what you can afford, and eat fatty meats and green veggies. Less than 20 carbs a day. I drank a lot of Sugar Free Power Aid and salted all my food extra. All of that helped me at 1st. It does get better hang in there!

Thank you all for the feedback! I will do as suggested.

Welcome Patty! This forum is so helpful and it feels weird to me that after doing keto for a little over a year now I am not a new comer but helping give advice! I struggled with trying to lose weight for over 20 years. Keto has literally changed my life, hang in there it will change yours too.
