Keto demand is blowing up!
Translates to loads of companies jumping on the bandwagon to try and make money by exploiting the inexperienced. A keto lifestyle doesnât need anything special.
Keto everywhere now it seems
EXACTLY⌠let me know if you have an idea. I still havenât figured out how to cash in.
I hate that âketoâ processed foods are watering down what keto really is - real food, real fat, prepared with intention. Not mindlessly out of a package.
The only idea Iâve had tossed towards me is one thatâs very local. And Iâm not sure Iâm ready or willing to give it a try.
I make keto muffins and a number of desserts. Itâs something I enjoy doing. I tweak as I go and use people around me for guinea pigs to try out new or improved ideas. Iâve gotten pretty decent at making âgoodiesâ.
Anyway, several people have approached me with, why donât I start selling some of these wonderful keto desserts? There are some local Facebook pages where people sell all kinds of things, and one lady that I know personally does indeed sell her baked goods (not keto) through one of the groups. Hmmm.
Iâm intrigued but not sure I really want to go down this road. 1), I know how expensive it is to make some of this good stuff. I havenât figured to the penny what Iâd have to charge for a dozen muffins but itâs way up there. 2), there is a LOT of work involved. How much work would I be willing to do to make $2? Would I work all day long to make $20 profit?
So far, I havenât been convinced itâs worth the effort. Maybe something like âKeto Kateringâ would be more of an upscale idea where maybe something like a wedding cake could net $500 in profit. The typical bakery on a typical day selling a typical cake is probably lucky to make $5 profit on a regular cake.
Dunno. Maybe there are niches to be filled. Trying to keep an open mind, but realistic, too.
Someone I know started doing a Keto Kitchen thing a year or so ago. Basically she and her friend cook a keto family meal about once a week for someone to pick up and take home.
I do hope it carries over to fast food places. The âwaste not want notâ side of me hates throwing away buns .
I know, itâs ridiculous. Just gives everyone the impression that this WOE is unsustainable without these fakey products.
Youâll know itâs really mainstream when the hog and cattle farmers start reverting to the traditional fattier breeds.
I am not interested in processed Keto foods so much. The benefits of Keto are mainly derived from eating fresh, whole foods.
But it is exciting to me if this means that Keto is becoming significantly more popular. The more people that do Keto, the more likely the idiotic notions about food and nutrition that our society has accepted for so long can eventually be discarded.
Awww. Does that mean that I shouldnât buy the âKetogenic pop tartsâ when they come out? Will they call them âFat tartsâ? Or how about Ketogenic Debbie Snack cakes?
I can feel this thread evolving into a snarky processed keto food name game!
Hey Iâm gonna pick up lunch from the keto arches. Want anything?
Exactly. OTOH, this demand is massively driven by most of the posters in r/ketoaustralia, I think, almost all of whom are after a quick fix not any real substantive change. (âWhat sort of soft drink can I still drink five litres of per day?â)
The article was also sadly lacking in any actual evidence, although it did get a couple of brand names in there, which was the main point of the article, I suspect.
I do wish I could find an all natural peanut butter packaged in individual servings. Nothing but peanuts and salt.
The closest Iâve found has palm oil.
Iâd even be ecstatic if I could find it with macadamia butter.
Maybe this could help that.
Iâve been doing just this for more then 20 years, and believe me, I wish I had a dollar for every time that someone said I should open my own bakery or restaurant. ⌠But similarly, I too have thought that the person who has the time and money to open a Keto-Friendy restaurant (and do it right of course) could indeed make a decent living, not to mention create a well managed following of those looking for good meals that are heathy. But I also totally agree with those above that mentioned the uselessness of some companies making keto-friendly products, being massed produced to simply ârake in the moneyâ. (And yes, taking advantage of those either inexperienced or too naive to know better. - Easy, quick and convenient, are usually ingredients for failure, not success.)
I would much rather create meals from simple whole foods/ingredients. ⌠i.e., if I want a Keto Snack-Bar, I will create one! Make them much cheaper. And will actually know what the hellâs in them.
My wife was saying stuff like this the other moring when we were out walking, and so I walked her along the main street in our (admittedly hipster) suburb and pointed out all of the cafes that had been around for less than six months but which had replaced other similarly-short-lived cafes as an example of how thin margins are for food purveyors
Yep, there are those too. They come and go like the wind. But like they say⌠Location, location, location⌠It really does matter. Some of the largest chains today, started with a single link.
Yeah, and these are in a great location. But great locations are usually not cheap, just adding to the fixed costs.
