same with me.
I Did not tell my story of the bad constipation because I can not say what caused it to go away. so I thought no added value to the OP.
maybe it is a transitional thing for some people.

Something that seems to be getting overlooked is the requirement from the body to change the digestive system to handle a different diet. No longer is the main staple carb and glucose based but fat based. The old gut biome enzymes and bacteria that were digesting the old diet no longer work and the body needs to restructure the bile. The old biome is eliminated during the transition period and new enzymes and bacteria have to be created. This is part of the adaption process and does take some time. ACV, fermented foods, live cultures (yogurt), supplements, etc can help this along. You are going to experience digestion issues during this process, but given time (and patience) the body will mostly balance these out.
Concerning volume and frequency, your body is becoming more efficient at utilizing the fuels you are supplying it with and feeding frequency has been cut to a better controlled feeding time schedule (as opposed to a daily grazing schedule) so it results in smaller byproducts expelled less frequently.
For what it’s worth, I had the opposite problem for a few weeks. Everything is fine now.
Dr. Stephen Phinney mentions lack of salt as a source of constipation in this video at 9:45 min.
I can relate as have been suffering the same issue for the last week. I do need fibre to be regular, and I hadn’t been having as many raw salads or raw veg as usual- and I’d been eating a lot of keto cheesecake.
Anyway the turning point for me was the diet doctors bread rolls. Have had one a day for the past couple of days and the psyllium husk has done wonders. Down 2kg and feeling normal again.
Might not be the answer for you but you’ll know within 24 hrs of eating one if it is
I’ve been keto for 4months and my BM has definitely changed. I tend to fast 2 or 3 days a week and pretty strict IF the rest of the week. What I find is that for maybe 5/6days nothing happens and then I’ll go several times a day for about 4days and then the cycle starts again. I really think it all corrects itself. I’m a great believer in KCKO without too much tinkering around. I do use a lot of salt but only drink when thirsty. Sometimes we can overthink things
I do drink lots of coffee which seems to help. And exercise regularly, with steady pure water through the day.
I think over time the fat itself acts as a laxative, or at least that’s my unscientific impression as some days I’ve gone more than once! (never in my life).
It seems to be random though, I don’t change up my macros often and generally eat the same foods so have no reasoning…
Yep can vouch for the psyllium husks, I add a teaspoon to my scrambled eggs everyday, almost turns it into a pancake.
I eat loads of butter and that helps. Also bacon grease. If I don’t eat enough fat, my stops. I get very uncomfortable if I don’t
.
As well, more protein and fat and less carbs makes less volume of .
This. About to eat my 5 morning strops of bacon sitting in a couple of tablespoons of grease!
Sugar free orange Metamucil … start with one teaspoon in a half glass of water each day after dinner … increase to two teaspoons after a week.
Works great.
I started taking 3 caps of Magnesium Citrate a few days ago and drinking more water, and it seems to be helping. Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
I was regular before I started Keto as well and it took me about nine weeks before I got back to my “normal” routine. It should settle down by all accounts.
Drink when you are thirsty, your doctor is gonna make you sick with that advice.
Hi, actually a couple of different ones right now depending on the day. I put the liquid citrate in my water with a little salt and no salt once a day. Additionally, If I eat breakfast I take this: MagSRT (Jigsaw Magnesium w/SRT)… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QKS5IOY?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf and if I don’t eat breakfast I take this kind with my multivitamin at night: Doctor’s Best High Absorption… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000BD0RT0?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf. The reason I take them this way is because a) I have them on hand so need to use them; and b) the jigsaw mag says to take with food and is slow release so better taken in the morning for me. Sometimes, if I feel a little off, I will take one of the Doctor’s Best at bedtime even if I have taken The others in the morning. I have have never felt better, slept better and have much more regular bowel habits. Clearly I was deficient and I wish I had known this years ago. Perhaps I could have avoided decades of insomnia. Great of luck!
Long term risks of constipation are virtually non existent, aside from developping diverticulosis. And even this is super frequent and benign. This is a myth that you should poop everyday, and some people just seem to obsess over this. Calm down.
