I began the keto diet in June. I’ve mainly been consuming the “classic keto foods” such as bacon, eggs, avocado, meats and loads of vegetables. the goal is to lose weight of course so I incorporated an apple cider vinegar drink typically I have very clear skin… I’ve never had acne usually just the occasional pimple or two here and there. Now I’m having a skin freak out and I’m not sure exactly what’s causing it. or what to do about it. I’ve broken out mostly around my mouth and nose area. PLEASE PLEASE HELP?!
Keto Acne
Hi, first let me say, this is coming from a 25+ year aesthetician and a 2 month keto’er…I had the same experience but from my professional standpoint, the body has a way of detoxing and the skin goes through a process of balancing itself out. Remember the skin is an organ in fact the the largest organ of our body and it too has a function and role to do. With that being said, as you continue to keto, your skin will go through the healing process itself. This is normal. Do not scrub or use any harsh exfoliate and especially don’t put any acne or drying agent on it…if you absolutely feel you need to treat the breakout a good topical treatment that’s natural is witch hazel. Always purchase carcinogen & organic free skin care that won’t dry your skin…you may be thinking that your skin is oily and you need to dry it out but don’t…that will only tell your skin to produce more oils! Your skin needs balance, especially now. As your skin is detoxing and healing it will naturally find that balance and soon you’ll be glowing! Hope this helps…Hang in there!
thank you hopefully it clears up but I must admit that in a panic I switched over to products that cater specifically to acne. I didn’t know what else to do before I posted here. so is it safe to switch back over to the products I was using before? or should I just keep using what I’m using now?
I would suggest having a licensed Esthitician evaluate exsactly what skin type you have then choose a “carcinogen & fragrance free” skin care product for your skin type. A product for combination skin usually does the job of balancing…and yes, moisture! Be sure it’s oil free! …this will balance your skin to keep it from over producing oils due to over drying with products used for acne. unless you’ve always battled with acne it may be best to stop but only a trained licensed professional can tell you this for sure. Agian, our skin is doing its job in detoxing itself. Let it run it corse, but in the process we need to care for it (with safe, gentle products) so not to hinder the healing process. Best of luck!
