Kefir/whey question

#1

Wife and I are newbies at kefir and I’m a newbie at keto ( currently in month 3). When we make kefir, we often have ours clearly separate to whey and curds I’ve read a few posts where people had adverse reactions to whey protein in general after being on a ketogenic diet so I’m a little apprehensive about trying just the whey. What say ye? Historically I’ve used a whey protein supplement after workouts (Isopure) and has fantastic results but have not used it since I began keto.

I know, I know… “Just try your own N+1” - I get it. Just getting a feel for whether there’s a valid reason NOT to try (as most of the adverse reactions have been near immediate AND severe diarrhea).

Thanks!

There is no valid reason not to try it. It’s an acceptable part of a keto diet. Just like the various whey protein powders, some folks are OK and some are not. You don’t know about yourself until you try.

Sorry I’m late to the party line, but I’ve been making and drinking kefir longer than I’ve been Ketogenic. I usually let mine separate into curds and whey intentionally. Less sugar. I was throwing away the whey for a long time. But why? I used to save it and drink it before I went keto. So, for my N=1, I started drinking it every time I strain a new batch of kefir. Instead of saving it til I have a quart, I just drink it right then. Granted I’m not losing weight at the moment, but I am maintaining near where I want to be. And, it’s about as healthy of a REAL health food as you can get! Plus, all the new kefir grains babies that were getting thru the strainer and helping flush the kitchen pipes, are now doing double doo’ty and flushing my internal plumbing. Of course, do what makes you feel the best. But I hope you’ve tried drinking it regularly since making this post.
