Kcal?

what the hell is a kcal and is it different than a regular cal??? Lol!!!

About 2 1/2 months in and don’t know this??? Omg oops!!!

Metric system…

Kidding, they’re the same thing as far as anything we talk about here. If I remember correctly, kcal is “correct” and when we talk about Calories, there’s a difference bewteeen a lowercase and uppercase C, but in the way we refer to calories, they are the same as kcal.

@richard explains it really well in one of the podcasts. Clearly I can’t, because I’m starting to confuse myself just typing this.

Lmao yeah I was like what?!?!?!

So if my macros calculator tells me I have 1300 calorie a day- is that 1300 kcal? If a recipe tells me the stats and it says there’s 544 kcal does that mean 544 calories?

(TJ Borden) #4

That’s my understanding.

Wikipedia has a nice entry about this - you don’t need to read beyond the first paragraph.

I didn’t know the difference until I started trying to figure out how to put my dog on a diet! :joy: Everything on dog food/treats is in kcal.

(Cassandra Higdon) #7

Omg so … food calorie vs energy calorie? Is that right?
How do u know what calorie you’re taking in?
I’m so very confused. Lol!!!

(Cassandra Higdon) #8

Lmao that’s awesome.

As I said above - I’m thoroughly confused.

Just don’t worry about which it says. It’s all a wash for us mere mortals.

This is the kind of thing that makes me glad I don’t count them anymore, my head used to spin trying to work this stuff out! :joy:
