Just saying HI from the UK

(Alex ) #1

Hi there, I’m Alex, 43 in the UK.

I’m a bit of a low carb, keto and Atkins veteran and have probably been doing it some form or another since the late 90s when I discovered the New Atkins Revolution book.

In the last few years, I’ve managed to despatch about 80 pounds all in all, I was really heavy, and really unhealthy. Recently, I’ve just completed Stoptober (alcohol, and sugar) and decided I would throw myself into the ketosis way of life.

Lost about 14 pounds, and have approximately 30 more to go to get to target!

I talk about this stuff all the time, so it felt natural to join a decent forum and speak to likeminded individuals. (the Facebook Keto pages are not too great)

Anyway, nice to meet you all! Alex.

Hi Alex and welcome from a fellow UK keto’er…
your post has me slightly worried when you say

Then that you have recently lost 80 pounds and want to lose another 30…!

I’m guessing some years off the wagon so to speak?

Hi mate, yeah kinda… I’m one of these types who jump in and out of different diets, busy life, crazy social life as well at times, and I tend to live to extremes as well.

I was 147 kg in 2015/16 - and set about myself with a no-alcohol approach, calorie counting, and really just focussing on real foods, and nothing processed and starchy - that ended up really being semi-keto approach.

Probably lost about 6 stone in a year I then took a job with a relocation, old habits came back with food and my weight jumped up again all through last year.

This year so far I’ve fluctuated between 17 and 19 stone, been heavy into exercise, but not had the best diet - the Stoptober thing came around, and I figured it was time to really go for it.

Good luck with it…I’m sure you’ll have great success and hope you can stick with it this time.

@MarkGossage

cheers mate, I love it actually… although it seems to be a different experience emotionally every single time I embark on it. This time, the headaches and fatigue in the first few weeks were totally debilitating - but conversely, the keto euphoria I’m getting at the minute, 6 weeks in or so, is pretty cool.

I’ve noticed that if I skip breakfast too and hold off until lunch, it’s almost like my body is running on it’s reserves and I feel unhungry and elated!

Wierd.

I haven’t had breakfast in the past 3 years! Eat lunch sometimes or dinner… currently on day 4 of a 7 day fast…!

(Alex ) #7

wowzer, how is that going? is this for a specific reason?

(bulkbiker) #8

just for “fun” …well have been stalled for 18 months in weight loss so thought I’d see if I can kick start it again with an extended fast. Lost over 100 pounds so far but not at the level I want to be… although my body seems to have different ideas!

(Alex ) #9

@MarkGossage - 18 months is a long time! I’d be going spare

(bulkbiker) #10

nah just keep calm and keto on… Type 2 diabetes reversed… 8 stone gone… all my health markers are great what is there to go spare about? I just have an image of me in size 32 jeans rather than the 34’s I wear now as opposed to the 44’s I used to wear… probably completely stupid so I’m ok where I am but we all need a hobby…

(Alex ) #11

good point, I suppose there’s come a point in age - certainly with me - where you start thinking more about life extension and day to day health as opposed to just the outright aesthetics and cosmetic appearance improvements.

I was assessing the years of damage being overweight has caused only yesterday, literally covered in stretch marks around the stomach etc etc etc - I’ve never going to be a model, but it would be nice just to feel completely comfortable and physically acceptable by normal standards, and be disease and ailment free!

Welcome! I’m 43 and also an Atkins veteran who has been lower carb through the years, but I’m back on the bandwagon now and really paying attention. Best wishes!

Weleome, Alex, 43 in the UK. I think it’s cool how you guys use stones for weight. I wish the USA used something similar… then maybe I could say I am 6.5 cinder blocks. :sunglasses:
