Just need some tips

Hi all,

I am in my 4th week of Keto and on the whole I’m doing ok.I decided to go for 10,20,70 ratios coz I knew I would really struggle with the carb element if it was any lower.I don’t need to lose a lot of weight(5kg),I’ve lost 2kg since starting.I haven’t bought the strips yet so have no idea if I’m in ketosis or not, I just wanted to get the diet sorted first and then worry about being in ketosis.Anyway my issue is the protein,I am going over on most days and I’m this might he adversely affect my efforts.I am mainly having bacon and eggs for lunch, then pork or mince for dinner with some sort of greens for dinner and 2 fat bombs and nuts for snacks after dinner as I am a tv snacker…Any tips would be helpful also I can’t get my head round net carbs,I’m using my fitness pal and trialling the premium for 30days but I don’t really see much difference between the 2 versions.Should I be subtracting the fibre from total carbs at the end of the day of is that already done.Sorry for the long post…

It sure seems like whatever you’re doing currently is working. .5 kg a week with only 5 kg to lose total is incredible in my book. Those last kgs are a bear to lose for many of us.

I’ve been stuck on those 5kgs for so long hence why I decided to try keto, totally get what you’re saying and thank you for the encouragement.

Any level of protein from 0.8 to 2.0 grams / kg of lean body mass / day is great. If even the experts disagree, then we can be forgiven for not worrying about it. The important thing is to get enough protein to prevent your body from breaking down lean muscle. Get at least that much, and you’re fine. There are a couple of researchers who are suggesting that more protein is better than less, so personally, I’ve stopped worrying about it. Remember that no meat is entirely protein, so don’t be dismayed—the way I was, lol!—at how little your protein number works out to. It took a while for me to realize that 100 g of protein was actually nearly a pound of meat. Whew! :bacon:

I’ve been on Keto for only 6 months, so I am by no means a pro, but I’ve lost around 80lbs so far. I’ve never used test strips, or gotten too deep into tracking macros. My approach has been to be more interested in the nutrition of what I eat. Kind of treating food like it’s medicine. I struggled with the protein question too, but as long as I kept feeling better, and losing weight or pants sizes I didn’t worry about it too much. However I have found that my if approach is to eat my greens for vitamins, enjoy some tasty, fatty protein and rely on fat to keep me satisfied then the macros kind of work themselves out. The kaviat is that for me, I have to be careful about fat bombs and Keto treats because for me they trigger cravings, which make my appetite (not hunger, I’ve learned to tell the difference) ramp up. Don’t know if this helps, just my experience so far. Long story short, as long as you are getting results, Keto on!
