Just getting started ... and I'm hungry

Hi! I’ve been LCHF for several weeks now, but only yesterday got started going full keto. Urine strips tell me that I’ve hit “small” keto, but to my surprise much of yesterday and today I’m hungry. I’ve been eating lots of fats, already up to 145 g today (78% fat).

This may be the ultimate newbie question: If I’m hungry, then I should eat?

I’ve also been IF for a few months, so I’m trying not to eat 3 meals a day, but did yesterday and am on track to do the same today.

Yes, especially in the early stages. Obey your hunger with carbs below kept 20g, let protein and fats take care of themselves.

Yes, if hungry, eat!

Below was the answer to my misreading your question “If I’m hungry, what should I eat?”

Leafy greens sautéed in butter and extra fatty steak.

I would stay away from nuts and butter coffee as they can be easily overdone.

Great, thanks to both of you for your replies!

I was planning on a 48 hour fast starting after dinner tonight but I’ll put that off for a few days if tomorrow my body tells me it’s not the right time.

I would not do a fast at all even intermittent fasting until you have done keto 4 to 6 weeks. You are not fat adapted yet, be patient, it comes with time.
In the mean time I would snack on cubes of cheese, lunch meat, low carb beef jerky, pickles, etc. Also look into making fat bombs to help add healthy fat in to help with sweet tooth and the fat helps keep you full. At this point when hungry eat!

Yes, eat when hungry. You didn’t ask for advice about this bit but I wouldn’t rush to do any fasting right now either. After a few weeks your hunger will naturally decrease and then you will be able to fast easily.

Everyone is different but I found lots of fat made my stomach sick in the beginning and what helped me was to increase my protein to keep hunger at bay. I didn’t go crazy with it, but snacking on ham or chicken was exactly what I needed to get me through the first few weeks.

You are hungry because you are in withdrawal from carbs. Eat fat to your heart’s desire and eventually, you will become satisfied as your body adapts to fat burning.
