Just finished the first fast of my life-If I can do it ANYBODY can!

Thanks to all the good info and advice I found here, I did it. Have never had a lot of willpower so am completely amazed. Started Keto 9 weeks ago and decided to try a fast. Thurs after dinner to Sunday Mid-morning. Friday was dicey–my stomach was used to getting fed at about 10:30 each morning, but I just kept busy at work and got through the day. Again was ready to eat when I got home but went clothes shopping instead. Trying on clothes in a three-way mirror is the best deterrent to eating under any circumstances!!! LOL! Came here during the tough hours until bedtime and got tons of tips, advice and info on fasting. Falling asleep was tough with a grumbling stomach, but when I woke up the next morning and realized I had made it that far, the motivation to continue was incredible. Got through Saturday again staying busy with errands and housework…and, again, here for added info and encouragement. That, I believe, is key…people who are open to sharing the good, the bad, and the ugly to help other people succeed. If only the whole world of people was like that. Imagine the possibilities!

Indeed!

Excellent job, @Katie140! I’m proud of you, and thanks for sharing the news about your successful fast.

You said it, we can also benefit from the good, the bad, and the ugly. So let us know what you learn as you continue your keto lifestyle!

Good job, I am at 7 weeks Keto and I have been pretty much IF from the start because I kind of implemented in my lifestyle before keto without realizing. One think I make sure I do and you probably have read is keeping your salt up. I drink lime water with himalayan salt and seems to address everything. I use the LifeOmic intermittant fasting app and it really helps and has support on their so I started a group Keto Intermittant Fasting. Good luck on your Keto and your fasts.

I was a "bad"IFer all my life. Never ate breakfast or lunch, then ate all kinds of crap from the time I got home from work until I went to bed. Going Keto forced me to eat real, whole food meals and has made a huge difference in how I view food as fuel. I like the idea of clearing the system occasionally, so I think I’ll do the 3 day fast at least once a month. Will check out LifeOmic. Thanks for the feedback. Good luck to you also!

Thanks so much for the encouragement! Will definitely share more–waiting to see how the transition out of the fast goes!! Started with a Tbsp of sunflower seeds about an hour and a half ago just cause it really hit the spot. We’ll see if that was a good decision!!

Omg…you’re a rockstar. That is an impressive first fast. I love reading here during my fasts, another inspiration to keep us going!

Ha! :slightly_smiling_face: Right on, Katie - your whole post made me feel great to read.

As time goes by, a lot of people find the first two days are the toughest to get through, and you did it the first time out.

Never in my wildest dreams thought I’d hear that in my lifetime!!! THANKS!!

I Know the April fast is coming up. Was hoping to join the crowd for support, but Easter weekend wasn’t going to work for me. Hope to be joining for May, though. Good wishes to all of you fasters next weekend. If anyone is doing a first fast, I’m here for support/encouragement. You CAN do it. Take it from the biggest scaredy cat out there!!

Just a quick follow-up on transitioning back from the fast. Turns out the sunflower nuts were a good choice --no issues. Followed 2-3 hrs later with 2 scrambled eggs and a couple strips of bacon-- so far, so good. Dinner a few hrs after that was 2 drumsticks off a rotisserie chicken and a small spinach salad and cottage cheese–THAT was going a little too far! I didn’t have the bathroom issues other people have experienced but felt bloated and slightly nauseous. Just too much. Will cut back next time!
Also, I read some other discussions on fasting and gastrointestinal issues and the possible connection to having no gallbladder and wanted to mention that I had my gallbladder out several years ago and used to have to be VERY careful about what I ate ever since. Since going Keto I have not had ANY problems at AT ALL. (AWESOME!!) And, obviously didn’t have any issues on or coming off the fast, so I’m not sure that having or not having a gallbladder is a major factor but everyone’s different, so…
