Just ate a whole container of mascarpone cheese...now what?

So that was the last thing I’m eating today and here is how far off I am on my macros:

18 out of 20 carbs (still ok here)
212 out of 153 fats
96 out of 69 protein

I’m at 80 percent fat for the whole day so I think this is ok, right? It’s probably just really going to stall any weight loss…

I will be shocked if I wake up tomorrow and am still in ketosis.
Tomorrow I will try to fast as long as possible to burn off all that fat.
Is this much fat and protein really bad for me? Was this a huge mistake or just a little one?

Tomorrow is another day. KCKO

Why? You’re still under 20g carbs. You should be fine.

(Miranda ) #4

Because so many people talk about how eating too much protein can knock you out of ketosis.

Also those 2 grams might be something I missed like a chunk of ginger or tsp of turmeric. I always aim for around 15g carbs in case I’m off by a few.

Protein might do it if you are way over, but 2 grams of carbs is nothing to worry about. The 20 grams net carbs is set very low to ensure that even the most insulin resistant can get into ketosis or the most metabolically deranged. Most people will be in ketosis at higher levels.

I don’t suggest playing with it until you know you’re fat adapted, but once you are you can begin to test to see what your individual carb limits are.

OK good to know! I’ve been been around 13-15 this past week…maybe that’s too low! I’m over the flu so it doesn’t seem to bother me. I thought the lower the better. But then again…I’m worried that if I was off by 1 or 2 that it helps to be under…so really I might be around 15-17.

Don’t worry about going too low. You can do zero carb if you want. There’s no health requirement to carbs. But also don’t sweat if you push 20 (or god forbid a little over).

By stressing yourself out over it, you will release cortisone, which next to insulin is the hormone that will pack on weight.

The cortisone is worse than a couple extra carbs. Just try to take everything in stride and KCKO.

Thank you! Going to up my CBD oil- LOL!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #9

Forgive a correction for the record: the stress hormone is called cortisol. It’s related to cortisone, but not quite the same thing. Sorry! It’s a natural mistake (and possibly an auto-correction), but confusion here might cause problems.

@Miranda_1016 You are basically fine, so don’t worry.

A few thoughts, however: First, 20 g/day of carbohydrate is a limit, not a goal. If you are under, that’s great. But 96 g of protein seems rather high, so you might want to watch it a bit. There is quite a bit of flexibility with protein, but too much does stimulate insulin, which is what we are trying to avoid. Lastly, don’t eat fat just for the sake of hitting your macro, eat until you are no longer hungry, then stop eating. On the other hand, don’t skimp, either. A few too many calories is better for your body than not enough. Hope this helps.

I can tell you from experience: Mascarpone cheese is fine and won’t have a tremendous impact on you if you can handle the lactose and casein (which it has very little of, luckily). It’s very benign on the blood sugar and insuli (from what I can gather from my data). I’ve eaten north of 700 grams of this stuff in one sitting (around 3,000 kcals, 300g fat, 21g protein, 20g carbs). It’s basically white butter

Hold up. First of all keep calm and keto on. My container(Trader Joes) reads 16 1Tbsp servings, total container zero carb so even if you counted each at 1g, 16g carbs, FAT is 96g not PROTEIN. Protein is 1g per so 16g protein for the container. Sure you did the math? On mine, ALL calories come from fat. No reason to think it’s kicking you out of ketosis. It’s a wonderfully fat-rich option for us. My clerk at TJs asked what I was going to do with it. I told her, eat it with a spoon!

(Jane) #12

If I read her post correctly… the protein was in addition to the marscarpone. It was her macros for the day of everything she ate.

(Tina Emmons) #13

Ahhh…right. It was that 96g that was the exact amount that threw me off and that she was at 18g carbs, thinking that would be about right for the container. If that’s the case, she probably didn’t count any carbs in the mascarpone. KCKO

If I told you about some of the things I overate in the past year, your little blip would be a barely imperceptible teeny tiny wave in a HUGE ocean! Trust me! You are fine!

Thank you.
