I have a similar problem. I gained too much: I was down to 180, but since Thanksgiving I have ballooned up to 190. Way too much. Also, I was not keeping up with the My Fitness Pal numbers / macros. Way too much MCT, Cream, all that…I did not count my calories. That is a great part of it. Also, I get tired of meat. So I go back on to large salads where I have to really count the carbs in those things.
Thanks for your rant
It helped me.
Just a rant, feel free to ignore
Sorry you’re struggling, too. But it’s a new year and we are both going to turn things around soon!

I agree. My initial response from seeing what she was eating. Too little fat. Too many meals and not long enough intervals
IMO Vegemite has a sharper flavour profile, more salty, more umami. It’s kind of like a comparison between a light lager and a full bodied ale. On the same continuum but vegemite is a little more so.
Most definitely. I have a tub of marmite right now (any port in a storm as my local store was out of Vegemite!) and I use it to dip pork rinds. It’s no where near as sharp as Vegemite and it’s also more like molasses in texture where Vegemite is more of a paste.
Growing up in NZ I was a marmite fend. I now find it too sweet and prefer vegemite but haven’t been eating it on keto as it was my ‘toast, butter and vegemite’ combo.
I use a Cronometer on my laptop, it is an app for phones also. It is amazing how many sneaky carbs are around where we don’t expect. If you use a tracker like Cronometer, or Fit bit. You can get on top of this problem. For me in the beginning I was eating Carbs that I didn’t even know were there once I started the Cronometer I was absolutely shocked and then knew why I wasn’t loosing. Just too many carbs
THANK YOU. I have been stalled for months and I think you just gave me the insight into why! I need to ditch the HWC - I drink a lot of coffee and despite meeting macros this could be the culprit. I lost 50 pounds easily and just stopped, clueless why. I just added IF, and have yet to see any impact.
Was it right around the 6 month mark? This is typical. There are alternate theories as to why. Dr. Fung says all diets work until they stop working. Usually if you keep at it KCKO it will start to work again. I lost 35 lbs easily (plus an additional 15 from pre keto), since then I have lost 4-9 (depending on the day) since September 7. However in that time I have gone down at least 2 dress sizes despite minimal weight loss and my appearance is not the same
I love this forum. I’ve spent hours and hours reading.
I use Chronometer and am very happy with it’s features. I can record multiple biometrics BG, ketones, blood pressure, make notes about my exercise other than what feeds in from my fitbit and scales. For instance I am making a note of my hill climbs that I started over a week ago. I can add custom foods (NZ foods) and recipes/foods/drinks that incorporate multiple ingredients (fat bombs, my coffee with cream). I also added in the Solgar multi-vitamin I take. I use the paid version US$35/yr which I felt was a fair price to help me on my journey.
I’m a regular reader but first post on the site and felt compelled to reply to this topic. Hopefully it’s of some value!
I’m a pilot and I basically work two weeks away from home at a time - two weeks on, two weeks off. Although I follow the Keto diet all the time the food I eat is very different when I’m away to how it is when I’m at home, almost like two different diets! What I notice with this is that I lose more than twice as much weight when I’m away as I do when I’m home.
I planned on writing a full breakdown of the differences but to be honest it boils down to this (for me):
‘Keto friendly’ puddings are bad. Very bad.
Sweeteners are bad.
Snacking is bad.
A fixed routine is bad. Mix it up - one day don’t do lunch, next day don’t do breakfast, the next have dinner at 10pm not 6pm.
Skipping meals is good.
Fasting is good - 36hrs is the longest I go but it works for me.
Another thing I notice is that the food I eat when I’m away is also less complicated and I’ll often just go to the supermarket and buy a bag of spinach, a block of butter and some sashimi, maybe a tub of raspberries to finish. That’ll be dinner. Breakfast might have been three fried eggs, 100g of cheese, 100g smoked salmon, salad with olive oil and a bowl of berries. Lunch would’ve been an avocado with mayonnaise and 60g of pecans. Much more basic (and much less enjoyable).
I’d say I eat the same number of calories when I’m away as I do when I’m home (2200 a day) and I still lose way more weight when I’m away.
I know everything I’ve written has been covered by previous posters but I genuinely notice the difference when I’m away and following the above advice. Hopefully it’s of some use.
That was very interesting - thank you for sharing that! So we need to shake things up, keep the body guessing, and keep it simple. I can see how falling into a routine could put the body (and mind) in a rut.
I’m not getting to the point where I’m not feeling hungry that much so I think I can start experimenting with some short fasts.
Thanks for the post.

It was after 7 months, yes. I haven’t lost or gained since - inches or weight. My sweet hubby says I carry myself a lot different and look thinner. I think I hit a major set point since I hovered at this weight for years prior to a major thyroid event combined w starting a drug known to cause weight gain (it positively impacted a 24/7/365/8yr migraine so is a keeper). Taking this med could be part of the problem. I hadn’t put the timing together before. I wanted to lose 100 pounds, but have revised to 75, realizing I am a heavily muscled and truly larger boned woman. So 23 pounds. Trying OMAD for a couple weeks with fingers crossed.
Minor problem: in keeping track of blood glucose, I have never found that my fingers would heal fast enough. I do massage therapy. I gave up trying to track blood glucose. Have not found a lancet device that could really go deep enough to get a good blood sample. There was one that I could use on my forearm but that seems to be discontinued. I do not do insulin or any oral diabetic drugs. Went from 11.3 to 7.4 A1C since July 2017 to now last A1C taken in January. BP ok as long as I keep carbs under control. SO: has anyone found a blood glucose monitor that can be used on the forearm? Yes, I know that would not be as accurate as the finger stick, but I need my hands for my work. Too painful after I stick my fingers. Just looking for some sugestions.
Check your glucose with a painless scan, instead of a routine fingerstick.
