Wow, the middle of the year already.

How is the Maintenance Crew doing?

The weather is great for getting out and moving in the sunshine. Spring low carb veggies should be readily available to everyone about now as well. Curly Endive is my new favorite food right now, we grew it, so I just stroll out and cut some for my salads on a daily basis now.

Looking forward to everyone’s posts.

Curly endive? I’ve heard of endive before, but what does it taste like? What vegetable family is it in?.. BTW jealous of your garden. Wish I had one this year…

It is considered a lettuce, it is just a curly leaf version of endive, it is pretty in the garden and on the plate. Our garden is a kitchen and flowers garden. I grow several herbs, garlic, chives, lettuces, kale, summer squashes. Tomatoes in pots only. Used to grow corn but the neighborhood raccoons love that stuff and I didn’t want them hanging around the yard, so no longer :(. The rest of the garden is flowers and raspberry bushes.

Food is a form of entertainment for me, always has been. I like to try out new textures, colors, etc. We had never grown endive before, so went with this one.

So your a “natural artist” using the herbs and flowers as your paints and sky/woods/yard as your canvas? Brilliant and unique!!! Bravo!!!

I found this article to be interesting, intermittent fasting can help you detox your liver.

Hello All!!!

I’m busy with HS graduation activities. Photo of me in my very form fitting graduation dress will follow, soon. I’m staying steady. Committed to 18:6 fasting for the whole SUMMER!!! Whoa!

I recorded a podcast video with Dave Kornsunsky of heads up health. We get into the nitty gritty about health data, food addiction and my weight and blood biomarkers on a screen share. Fun times. Podcast/video will drop in 2-3 weeks. Will link to it.

Happy Summer (for those of us in N. global regions.). Happy Winter to those South!

I’m pretty much into maintenance now- I’d happily try to lose a few more pounds, but hubby feels I’ve lost enough now (to be fair it does seem to be going from my face & chest, rather than the bottom half which is where I’d like it to go!!), so am having a week of OMAD to see what that does… & we have a weekend away at the end of it, which is going to be tricky, so planning a fast after that!
We have lots of lettuce in the garden now too, & herbs are doing well- loving salads with dressings, & making herb butters!

Well we went to Winter Park CO this weekend to celebrate our 26th. The weekend was bittersweet. I did IF for two of the days, had several nice cocktails, not the syrupy non keto friendly kinds, but still I usually don’t have them at all. Had one dinner that was not keto and another that was just awesomely keto. Came home the exact same weight as when I left. The weekend took a sad turn when I learned of Anthony Bourdain’s death. That news hit me hard and I wasn’t sure I could not stress eat, but instead walked several miles on the Frazer River trail. Oh and my Fitbit broke so I couldn’t even track that, but at least I was able to get a slightly tighter grip on my emotions. Tony just holds a special place in my heart and I am still upset, but I am not eating so that is a victory for me. Last time I had felt this way was when John Lennon got shot and that kicked off my over 30 years of yoyo dieting life. Not going to happen this time around. So I am keeping calm, ketoing on, and fasting.

I hope everyone is doing well today.

I’m sorry that your fun trip ended with the tragic news, but am glad that you channeled your emotions into healthy outlets. Hope time eases your saddness and you stay on the “bright side” of life. I know how dark it can get. I feel your pain. KCKO

Well done, and I appreciate the SV KCFO reference! Much peace to all during this challenging time.

Thanks for this thread. Today is my one year Keto-versary, and I KNOW that Keto has kept me sane during a very tumultuous year. And I want to use this post to commit/ be accountable to being the same or lower weight by the end of the month. This will be especially challenging as my mother died June 3rd. I did four days (mindfully) of comfort eating - which did NOT help, BTW - and came in feeling gross and just under my scream weight. It took clean eating until this morning to get back to square one - but the weight isn’t the real issue. Eating Keto the past several days has allowed me to get closer to my grief feelings and work with them instead of ignoring them in a carb haze. So much to be said about this way of eating - including enhancing the mind’s ability to grieve in a healthy way. KCKO and I echo the colaroygal’s message: KCFO!

As promised, graduation dress photo. Such a comfy dress. Had my brother take this photo.

Congrats on your ketoversary. My dad passed 5 years ago on June 5th. Keto does help me deal with the binge urges arising from grief.

I had a lapse 3 weeks after, on an Alaskan cruise. 2-3 bites, one night of thinking about things and I was back to LCHF/Keto the next morning.

Hang in there.

(Karen Parrott) #14

That’s how I lose, from my face and downward.

Fresh veggies. Sounds great. How did the OMAD work? Take care!

(Karen Parrott) #15

I’ll have to put this on the reading list now that graduation is over! Thanks for starting the monthly threads.

I’m about to become an empty nester, so after the summer, I hope to post more often.

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #16

Such a cute pic.

Get ready for empty nester life. I think you might just enjoy it.

Oh! You look great and happy! Congratulations on getting her through school so well - and with such a good role model! Thank you for everything you contribute to this thread and your wisdom around maintenance. I need the wisdom and guidance. For some reason I think I remember that you are also a transplanted Hoosier? I was born/raised in Indiana, have lived away for a gazillion years - currently in New Orleans. I hope you have the best of summers with your grad!

Empty nesting- not looking forward to that! Mine are gradually going…2 years before they’ll be properly gone I think  Sorry @gardengirlkp about your anniversary…
OMAD worked well- I’d done a lot of fasting to get down to target weight so thought I’d probably put on a couple of pounds, only 1 went on, & I ate well with my meals & keto dessert too.
Had a weekend away, unfortunately a few non-keto treats, so back to fasting today. Surprisingly although I ate a lot yesterday when we got home, it didn’t set off any cravings for carb stuff.
