Story time. In 2012, I got hot on losing weight. I was 307 (5’9") and I joined r/loseit on reddit for support. They preached CICO and so that is what I did. I did eventually drop to 242 but I burned out with all the logging and doing a 1000 calorie deficit. I just burned the fuck out. It took a few years but I eventually got back up to 285 and on Oct. 31, 2016, I was reading r/keto and decided that this was going to be the time that I did it. I have dropped 40 lbs since that day and I feel great but more work is to be done. More importantly, I am not burning out of what I eat and I’m not burning out of logging because what I eat is easier to log.
Last week, I went shopping for new clothes after my size 40 pants no longer fit. This was precipitated by a female co-worker telling me that I no longer have an ass and my jeans were too baggie. So I went to the store and bought 38’s which I haven’t been able to get into in a few years. I rarely try clothes on at the store as I know what I need. I get home and don’t you know I can fit a fist in side-ways to the waistband! I might be able to get into 36’s!
My sister and oldest brother live with me. My sister, who is 10 years older and over 300lbs, started the same time I did. She’s lost approximately 35lbs. Saturday, my oldest brother, who had heard enough after sending him several 2kd podcasts over the last 3 months, decided to start keto himself. Day 5 and he’s enjoying the hell out of it and our house is 100% keto. Life just got easier.
I want to thank @carl and @richard for what they do. I’ve got a few other people at work who have listened to me talk about my experience and are considering making the change. Thank you guys for being a guiding light in a dark world. I did the work but I wouldn’t have even been on the construction site without you giving me the blueprint and my work belt.
