It is normal to not be hungry?

#1

So, I’ve been doing Keto for about two weeks now, and so far so good. I think? I’ve been doing it for weight loss and I have lost about 6 lbs so far which is awesome, as I have a lot to lose.

However, the weird thing is I find that I’m just not hungry most of the time. Is that just because I have a lot of fat to run off of LOL? I start my day with coffee and HWC and then I really don’t notice that I want anything to eat again until like 2:00 or 3:00. I’m not used to this at all. I’m used to being hungry and wanting to snack all the time.

Even when I do eat, I tend to get full quickly. Is this normal? Sorry for the stupid question, but I’ve done Atkins before and this has not happened to me when I was doing that.

Thanks for your help and wisdom!!

That is normal, although you got it quicker than most.

Its not the fat that you have yet because you are not likely fat adapted. Breaking from carbs and getting your insulin down is allowing the “I am not hungry” signal to reach its final destination. I used to eat a big carb laden breakfast at 6:00 and was so hungry by 9:30 I would get dizzy and need to eat (you guessed it) more carbs in a snack bar. Now I eat zero carbs for breakfast and have no trouble making it to lunch. And the best part is I feel great.

Yes, I am so used to eating breakfast and then to be starving again two or so hours later!

So, for the first time, I can actually “hear” what my body has been screaming at me for the past 40-odd years. Huh. I guess old dogs CAN learn new tricks!

:grinning:

Thanks!

This is completely normal, and is one of the benefits of lowering your insulin level by cutting back on carbohydrate. Eat to satisfy your hunger, and you’ll be fine. Don’t eat when you’re not hungry, either; you don’t need to pay attention to the clock.

Congrats on the weightloss and sticking to things for two weeks. You’re doing really well.

Regarding the change in hunger, it’s very normal, and one of the best consequences of a ketogenic way of eating in my opinion. It’s not that you’re unusually lacking hunger, but that you didn’t have a clean signal before of when you really were hungry and needed to eat.

Now that those signals are more reliable, you can listen to them much better and essentially just eat when you’re hungry, and don’t eat when you’re not hungry.

Thank you all for being so encouraging and letting me know I’m not crazy!

I really hope that things continue this way for me. It’s just so strange for me. I really wish I would have found this 20 years ago.

Thank you again!!!

Don’t you know we’re all crazy here. Those crazy people skipping meals, fasting, and eating fat. Such barbarism.

Perfectly normal. Wife is always telling me I need to eat something but if I’m not hungry I obviously don’t need it!

Yea, isn’t it awesome? I used to eat an insane amount of food. My metabolism is far more efficient now and I love it.

Funny. I did the Atkins diet 15+ years ago. Same here, I don’t recall satiety, at least as I do now. In retrospect, though, I have far fewer carbs now then I did on Atkins.
