So, I’ve been doing Keto diet for 3 weeks now. I have gained weight instead of losing weight. WTH??? I use to eat carbs all day long along with lots of snacking. I don’t snack much anymore and certainly not carbs. My carbs are between 20-30. I don’t understand! Does this not work on me?? I’m getting pretty frustrated! Any help or advise is appreciated! Thanks.
Is this working?
There are various levels to this: what are your target macros (how did you come up with that number), lifestyle, sedentary, gym, active, are those net carbs? Have you tested your blood glucose and ketone levels? What is your goal? I’m sure there are other questions that I have missed, but this is a start.
I do not know anything about macros. I have an active job. But plan to get back into the gym. My last glucose was 65 non fasting. I do the keto strips daily. I’m in the moderate range. My goal is weight loss.
Thanks.

I would suggest taking a look at your macros and setting them up. You’re goal is weight loss, but you aren’t sure of your caloric intake and macro nutrients? Blood ketones, or ketone urine strips? All parts play into this new way of life/eating.
Where do I find the macros out?? I use urine test strips.

Couple comments:
-
Weight gain at the start is normal. You are adapting.
-
3 weeks is a millisecond in the grand scheme of things.
-
There may be more carbs than you’re accounting for, and labels are not always 100% accurate (certain government agencies allow tolerances for saying something has <1 carbs, etc).
-
This is a lifestyle change, and personally I wouldn’t call it a diet, because that implies short-term.

You’ll hear this a lot, keep calm and keto on!
edit: Dread, since when does “couple” imply five? - sober you
With this new way of eating, you’ll be trying it for a year to give it a good trial. Week 3 of 52 is not really time to press the panic button.
You have to get better at it … reducing your carbs further and further. Finding the hidden carbs.
For quicker results, I suggest trying to keep your carbs as low as possible, definitely under 20.
Typical beginner mistakes are:
not eating enough fat.
Eating too many carbs.
What is your weight and goal weight ?
Yesterday I had close to no carbs.
3 eggs in olive oil for breakfast. Chicken Cesar salad for lunch. Hamburger with mushrooms onions and cheese w/ garden salad oil and vinegar.
I highly recommend Shawn Mynar’s podcast called Keto for Women. She has several episodes that address this and will make you feel a whole lot better (and smarter)!
To lose weight 20 carbs or less, 0.5 - 0.8 times goal weight = protein ( 0.8 recommended so you keep lean muscle), adjust fat for calorie count. Intermittent fasting ( no eating between 8pm until noon ) water, coffee, bone broth is ok. Growth hormone repairs cells and removes fat so sleep starts it, insulin stops growth hormone so first bite of food starts fat storage
Awwwe hell. You’re a Brenda. You got this. Patience grasshopper. BTW, have you listened to the 2KetoDudes podcasts? Here’s my interview:
