Is this the grandma's underwear post?

Hey Dudes, I found you guys 4 weeks ago and I must say it’s been like a revelation. I’m 64 and fort weight with calorie counting and low-fat diets all my life and I’m still over weight. The Podcasts and Videos have been answering so many questions and revealing so many miss conceptions I can’t believe it. I always new that there was something stronger than me at work in my system. I guess it was Sugar, Carbs, Insulin Retention and the B/S that the Greater Powers have fed us all our lives. Thanks for opening the door to my new life.
Anyway, to my question; My friend is selling KETO//OS and says it’s fantastic. They boast that it puts you into a state of Ketosis quickly. The only thing I’m sure of is that it’s expensive.
Does anyone have an opinion on this supplement please?
Forgive me if this is a topic that you have already talked about, I’m just a Newbie. Keto On Guys. (Perth, Western Australia)

Jimmy Moore & doc Nally use this & my understanding (according to their podcasts) is that it can be benificial for some people to give them a boost into ketosis-but ONLY if you are eating keto already. I’ll look for a link for u to one of their podcasts that may address this. Are you familiar with their podcast, KetoTalk?

Here’s a link to one of their podcasts covering the topic of exogenous ketones (which Keto OS is)

There are 2 ways that we can get ketones, we can make them (those are called endogenous ketones), and we can eat them or inject them (exogenous ketones). We spend an entire podcast episode on exogenous ketones

The cliff notes version is;’

If you are trying to lose weight then you necessarily need to be burning your body fat. If you make ketones you make them out of fat. If you eat ketones then they replace the need to burn fat to make ketones. So exogenous ketones are not beneficial for weight loss.

If you are trying to reverse Diabetes by gaining glucose control, then ketones are just a side effect. If you are Diabetic, your ability to control your blood sugar with insulin is broken. The goal is to restrict sugar and starch so your body can make glucose on demand and that will keep your glucose in a tight range - it’s like a backup mechanism for achieving glucose control that people who don’t have diabetes can do with Insulin. Your body in this state makes ketones - but that is just a side effect of having glucose control.

Exogenous ketones allow you to have ketones in your blood and still eat sugar and starch … but that defeats the purpose for reversing diabetes. The point of having ketones for a diabetic is why your body was forced to make them - because you were limiting glucose to just the glucose made in your liver. exogenous ketones are not beneficial for glucose control

What they do is allow someone who doesn’t want to restrict carbs to feel the mental calm and focus that people who do restrict carbs feel. So for me they are more of a recreational drug to allow people who are not keto to share some of the experiences that we ketoers get as a side effect of our diets for weight loss or glucose control.

Oh the other thing is they are expensive. a serving of Keto O/S is about $5. As best as I can tell this is equivalent to about 5g of the ketone beta hydroxybutyrate. Just to fuel our brains our minimum requirement is over 100g of beta hydroxybutyrate a day - which we make just by restricting carbs … so my liver right now is making at least $100 a day of the stuff for free.

Also there are biochemical arguments (involving chirality of the molecules) why ketones made in a vat may not be healthy over the long term compared to ketones your body makes. And they are made in the labs of one of the biochemists who went to jail over the Belco steroids scandal.

So I personally wouldn’t touch them.

The only reason I might use exogenous ketones is if I was trying to starve cancer and had trouble getting my ketones into high enough ranges on a low carb diet … OR … if I had elderly relatives with alzheimer’s or parkinson’s who were unable to stay on a ketogenic diet. In both cases the potential long term safety issues are insignificant compared to the short term survivability of cancer or frankly the estimated life span of a geriatric with dementia.

NB: Our podcast is not sponsored through advertising of exogenous ketones.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiccccccceeee !!!
I don’t have any questions on it now !
I am only up to Podcast 27, but might skip straight to 36 and then come back to Podcast 28. Thanks so much Dude.

Thank you @richard, I perfectly agree and you saved me a lot of typing!

I’ll add that I’ve tried the Keto//OS products and I’m much happier with things like Brain Octane Fuel from Dave Asprey and now the KetoMCT from Dr. Berger because the body naturally makes ketones from the MCTs in these products.

I’ll also emphasize that allowing the body to create natural ketones from MCTs over exogenous ketones is much safer unless you’re in a situation like cancer where you’re looking for any possible edge.

(Kathy L) #6

I was trying to address Keto OS specifically…

(Richard Morris) #7

They are worse than usual exogenous ketones because they are part of a multi-level marketing (pyramid) scheme. So there are people all over the world selling it using claims that conflate the benefits of a ketogenic diet with having ketones in circulation.

So all the benefits they promise for weight loss, are ruined by the fact the product displaces actual fat being burned. And promising that you can get into ketosis but don’t have to restrict carbs … defeats the purpose for Diabetics.

(Kathy L) #8

Had no idea about that -don’t use them - $$$

#9

I got Perfect Keto to try out and it actually works really well. I had +1-2 then normal for up to about 5 hours after taking. And the peaches and cream flavor is amazing.

(Chris Bair) #10

They’re also from Utah. Like NuSkin, Doterra, Xango, Noni, and more - I’m from Utah and it drives me nuts how many MLM companies pop-up around here, especially when family and friends get sucked in.

(Richard Morris) #11

They offered to send me some - I asked them what benefits they offered for Weight loss or Diabetic glucose control … still waiting for a response on that

#12

By “try out” i mean I actually paid for it. If they are offering it to you for free get some peaches n cream flavor, it’s tasty.

I’m probably an outlier, have Keto OS. I have begun using it during menstrual week b/c I fall out of ketosis (unless I’m fasting). I also feel super low energy and cruddy that week. The exogenous ketones work as an energy and mood stabilizers for the 4 toughest days.

Last month I just happened to be fasting. That worked better than the KOS. I’m just not sure I’m prepared to do a 7 day fast every month.

(Jason Fletcher) #14

I tried keto os and found that mct oil gave me greater mental clarity and focus. Then again when i was experimenting with mct oil at the time i was using about 3 table spoons at the time.

(Derek I. Batting) #15

:flushed:

(Jason Fletcher) #16

Something i worked up to and lets just say 4 table spoons did not work out well.

(Derek I. Batting) #17

I’m surprised you’re not posting this from the throne as we speak.

(Stephanie Hanson) #18

Well shit. I was thinking the same thing

#20

I cannot like this post enough.

THIS.
And as jumpy as most health nuts get about chemicals (clutches pearls), I am extremely surprised they overlook these facts.

YIKES.
You could not PAY ME to take them. I won’t even do it free. No fucking way!!!
