Is this normal you think?

(Flo) #21

Update: it has been few days I’m sometimes depressed or very angry, is it still because of the adaptation period? Any tricks to avoid theses feelings?
Much thanks

I would say yes it’s normal I’m only at a month but last week I had two days of depression. I never get depressed unless it relates to a specific situation. This was just plain in the doldrums. Today, everything and everyone irritated me. I think our bodies are just going through major changes. The advice is to keep up with the electrolytes. I upped my salt intake. Personally, I’m gonna pay it forward with the depression and irritation thing. I told my husband today that hopefully In a few months my clothes wouldn’t fit and I would need a whole new wardrobe. Guess whose depressed now?:joy:. Focus on all the great results.

Because you are trying to gain, and your intake is such you are probably getting the side effects of BG spikes, I know that I was very depressed and moody before keto, when my BG stabilized that all went away. Until I started to up my intake for my BMR increases, then I noticed it coming back some a few hours after a meal. Not as extreme but it is noticeable, I think there have been several studies linking mood to BG, I don’t know if you monitor your BG but it might be the link. Magnesium also plays into this some, people can have anxiety etc from lower magnesium.

Good to know. Thanks!

cannot say that is me, but I have seen it with others, IMHO the holy Trinity play an important role, but I think people over play magnesium and potassium a lot. The later being a dangerous one to screw with, I was too high had I followed advice here that is often said I would have even been worse. I tread lightly when I use it now.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #26

That’s what I’ve heard about potassium too. I considered the Morton’s lite salt people on here mention but decided not to mess with it. As for magnesium, apparently hardly anyone gets enough.

(Flo) #27

Thank you all for your answers and help. I do supplement with magnesium so I think it’s something else…

Perhaps it’s due to the type of food I eat, it’s super “simple”: only meat, veggies and fats. Maybe I should start to make some keto treats with artificial sweeteners to create some “sweet desserts”.

Well anyway, this is the beginning of my journey, with your experiences and some trial and errors I’ll make it through!

(Chris W) #28

That’s pretty much all I eat, I think the sweeteners would compound issues like that but I have no proof. The other thing I was thinking for you would also be what is called cyclic keto were you eat keto and carb and cycle between the two, if done correctly you can gain the benefits of both without much whip lash from either.

(Flo) #29

Yes I thought about it, I think it would be amazing for me but in order to do it I need to be fully keto/fat adaptated since some months no? I’m only on my third week, eating only once a day accelerate the fat adaptation process from what I know but still I should wait few more months don’t you think?

(Chris W) #30

I cannot give an honest answer there is a forum area that may be able to help. The few times I have gone out of keto with high carbs its not been fun and prefer to not suffer that regularly. Going low on ketones with higher protein is not nearly as bad but it can take for ever to recover if you want the full keto benefits. I would say eat when you are hungry, to do other wise will make your life harder, even if you are eating a lot. The people who seem by my estimation to get to fat adaption the quickest are typically the healthiest and also the leanest so you may be a contender.

(Empress of the Unexpected) #31

I’m starting my fourth week and was not insanely abusing carbs before - I was kinda fixated on meat and cheese, I would eat twice a day. I really think, based on my experience, that you would be great with twice a day. Until you are fat adapted. Angry and depressed might signal hunger. We all want instant results, but just give it a few weeks. I am able to miss breakfast. But I am nowhere eating once a day.

(Chris W) #32

Yes but he is trying to gain, that is a whole different subset of problems.

(Flo) #34

Hey guys, appreciate so much your help and feedbacks!

Basically my goal is to heal my guts and my candida (which is I guess the underlying cause of me keeping loosing weight when eating under 2-3.000 calories of carbs daily.

With keto I can control my cravings, eat less quantities ( I eat tremendously amounts when “eating carbs” and never feel full) and have no ever lasting hunger feeling.

While with OMAD I get the full benefits of eating once a day and leaving my body rest and repair.

BTW: what’s OP?

OP - Original Post

Yesterday I decided to try doing the cycle keto as we spoke with @In2steam
I had sugar/snacks cravings since few days so I figured why not treat myself with 300gr of roasted cashews last evening
These have plenty of carbs… I estimate my total daily intake yesterday (in net carbs) to be around 110-130gr.

I thought I would feel like shit this morning, but not at all, everything is the same.

So either I wasn’t in ketosis since I started (three weeks ago) despite of the keto pee sticks being purple, either I’m the fastest fat adapted person in all time… (obviously the first option is more realistic)

What do you guys think?

  • For a reminder, I’m eating only once a day, and mostly like the following:

85% fats from unpasteurized butter and cold press olive oil. ( around 250gr of fats…)
10% proteins, like 200gr of grounded beef or entrecôte
around 20 grams net carbs of veggies
3L water and around 5g of unrefined salt daily, supplement with potassium and magnesium.

Kicking in and out seems to effect people differently, and the type of carb you eat as well. If that had been solid sugar I think the effects would have been a lot worse at least in my experience. I am not entirely positive how long they take to digest but I am sure its longer than say some cake with frosting or an orange juice.
