Is My Diet Sufficient?

(Todd Allen) #21

I increasingly sought treatment with minimal relief over the past 25 years through medical institutions such as the University of Chicago Hospitals for those issues as they piled on in cascade. Each symptom was treated separately, medications for blood pressure, medication for peeing too much, antibiotics for chronic sores on fingers and toes, etc.

I repeatedly asked if I might be diabetic and each time was assured I was merely pre-diabetic and did not yet need to go on insulin and medications for that too. And that was a blazing stroke of good luck, because I’ve come to believe hyperinsulinemia was the driving or an aggravating factor of every condition I have/had. Going low carb then fasting and then keto reversed the cascade with things getting better very fast. I still have many of the issues to a small degree but no longer need medications for them.

ketostix are not reliable, we all know this.

I simply find the whole tracking thing to be utterly maddening

Also it depends on the information being accurate.

Many people would definitely agree with this. Many others would disagree. There’s no requirement of ketogenic living that requires any testing. None, whatsoever. So, if it’s frustrating or maddening, by all means save the time and money it takes. If you’re consistently under 20g of carbs, you’re very much likely in ketosis and on the right track. No testing required.

I personally test for positive reinforcement only. And to see if I did/ate something that might impact my desired state of ketosis between 1.5-3.0 mmol/L. I’m confident when I reach my goal weight 30lbs from now, I’ll test much much less. But until then, I’m paying careful attention to the measurements, which are blood-based and the most accurate measurements available to us right now. Again, that’s definitely not a necessity, though. Just an approach I choose. I hope that makes sense.
