Is Ketosis really the switch we think it is?

You might enjoy this:

If you want a cool illustration, Ted brings one out at a little past the 17 minute mark. But if you want to watch the whole video, he covers a lot of stuff in a short time.

I think it would be criminal to withhold your stuff from this crowd :joy::heart_eyes:

I think I’ll pour a couple fingers and sit down and watch this. Thanks!

If you are secreting Ketones, except for ketoacidosis, you are in Lipolysis. They are not two different States. I’ll reiterate, ketosis is only a part, and a secondary one, of Lipolysis. Actually, you’re probably Lipolytic during ketoacidosis as well, since your body has defaulted to glucagon secretion. It’s that point how diabetes was called the “Wasting Disease”…

Thanks!

Heehee, yes, it’s me. I’d be here all the time if I could, but alas…
I don’t know how people keep up with everything! All the blogs, forums videos… Totally overwhelming.

It’s an obsession. Fasting helps!

Good to see you here on the forums Amy @ALB , I’ve referenced your videos more than once and they have been very helpful.

OH MY GOD YOU ARE REALLY HERE, lol.

I’ve read so many of your articles, welcome to the forum

I saw the URI and quickly changed from scrolling past to clicking, indeed

how to reach this metabolic flexibility?

Is it by being hard core keto for unnamed period because of individuality?

I was very strict for most of the first two years but started eating “normal” meals probably once a month or so, which then changed to 2 or 3 times a month. In the beginning it was miserable and I started fasting the day after to counteract it. It definately seems at least for me and the wife that just like high fat consumption and fasting, that your body gets better at it when it’s more of a normal thing. Way I see it is even if I eat a “normal” meal 4-5 times a month, that’s 4-5 meals out of 90! A completely ignoreable amount. I can’t seeing our bodies being good at both as a bad thing, granted it’s up to me to be responsible with what I eat, I don’t go on cookie and cake binges or anything like that. I eat the meal and it’s over. It’s pretty rare now that I get after effect cravings from doing it, even if I do I ignore them as obviously I know why.

(Running from stupidity) #35

That’s a lot of meals in a month!

(Mike W.) #36

No kidding. 3 meals EVERY SINGLE DAY is only 90ish…

Well I would love to see your blog and video!!

The discussion kinda makes me wonder whether many do some type of carb-up, whatever name it’s called, even a “cheat”, maybe without much thought. I’ve never really thought a lot about it but from time to time, I have heavier carb meals. Occasionally, I’ll have some beans or peas. Occasionally, I’ll have a sweet potato. Occasionally, I’ll have some carrots. I don’t do it at any regular interval. It’s probably 1 to 3 times a month. And I feel no guilt about doing that.

Anyway, the thought coming to mind is that maybe I’ve stumbled onto something that’s actually good for me. I have not had issues of feeling sick with a higher carb meal and maybe that’s because it’s not something my body never sees. Like I said, it’s not every day. Might not even be every week. But if I have a desire for something like a sweet potato, I don’t avoid it or pretend it’s evil.

Hmmm. Interesting thoughts to mull over. Thanks!

Of course it’s good for you, in the metabolic sense. Infrequent or peodic carbs are metabolically positive and are Humanity’s Natural Pattern. As long as you never get to the point of glycogen overcompensation you’ll never get to the point when negative effects start to reoccur.

(Adam Kirby) #40

Don’t worry I’ve only shared your ketone article like a million times here.

(CharleyD) #41

Don’t forget the GNG article, too!

AHAHAHAHA, I’m banning myself from the keyboard when I’m half asleep and not caffeinated yet!
