I’m finding that fasting the 18/6 is now normal for me as I’m not hungry anyway and I just find myself fasting. Will an extended fast benefit me any better than what I’m already doing?
Is fasting every other day (i.e 36 hour fast with 12 hour feeding window) any better than 18/6
The longer fast will reduce insulin even more, go deeper into autophagy and raise Human Growth Hormone (HGH) levels even higher.
There’s another thread where I’ve included a link to study on similar fasting that showed no negative effects on lean body mass after 32 weeks of doing this every other day, also known as Alternate Day Fasting (ADF).
Getting to the natural 16:8 is a classic characteristic of a ketogenic WOE anyway, so pushing the “not eating” further becomes more on all counts both good and bad. Since the good often far outweighs any potential “bad” there’s usually compelling benefit in exploring the process. Finding that “sweet spot” of how much and how often is a recurring theme and pace is referenced by Fung, et. al., as an important consideration. He says “changing it up” and “if you feel like it” meaning both statements literally and not just figuratively. When he says “you can” and “if you can’t then don’t” he’s referencing the need to weigh the pros and cons of the multiple aspects according to your body’s response and his celebration of the intimate relationship between the mind and body may seem scientifically understated to some but that still water certainly does run deep.
