Introduction from an old Canuck

(Kirk) #1

I’ve been browsing around here for a month, so I guess it’s time I introduced myself. I’m a semi-retired tech guy, 62 next week. I started low carb / keto a month ago on the advice of my young, forward thinking doctor. I had considered it for some time, but thought it might be a problem for a guy with a rebuilt heart (one stent after a STEMI four years ago). I was the fire chief at the time, and had gotten some smoke inhalation on a large fire call. The CO buildup in my blood led to a clot at an unknown blockage the next morning, and triggered my first experience in the hospital system, and you know, being temporarily dead and stuff.

I was in decent condition at that time, around 190 and very active. Down from an all time schit-show weight of 240 when I worked in IT back around 2000. I’ve looked after myself in a very serious manner since I got a second chance. I’ve dropped 15 pounds, down to my high school weight of 175 since going keto a month ago. I intend to get to 165. I’ve been powerlifting for a few years now, so have some decent muscle mass, but still have a bit of belly left at 175.

I’ve never felt better than I have since going keto. This will be my new normal.

Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on your progress! Where in Canada are you? I grew up in Buffalo, so have fond memories of crossing over the Peace Bridge to visit Toronto. Would love to get to know more of the country.

Never been to the Maritime Provinces, but they are all supposed to be very beautiful. Someday!
