Intro to Forum Keto Newbie

Hello Ketoers!

First I want to thank all of you who contribute to the forums! It has been invaluable!
Second–> My favorite Podcast has become 2 Keto Dudes! Love them!
Third–> My blood glucose monitor now has real purpose along with the KetoMoto Monitor.

I am 43 years old and have dealt with weight since I was placed on High dose steroids due to severe Asthma. I was on high dose steroids for 10 years straight and went from 122# up to 250# and became an insulin dependent diabetic (although I was labeled as Steroid induced) at the age of 17.

At the age of 21 I decided I was done with the steroids and all the severe havoc they played on my system. .No longer diabetic. My gall bladder was removed and I was also dx with hypothyroidism and Hypoglycemia. Started Atkins for 1 year. My weight was down to 205#

Over the next several years I slowly lost weight; graduated from High School, College, Married and had 3 kids. Lowest weight 172#

All three pregnancies I had Gestational Diabetes and needed insulin.

I have dappled in several different diets but either feel hungry or bottom out in blood sugar (BG low 40’s)

I started an exercise program 3 years ago and it had an eating plan of 30 grams of carbs 6 X per day. I kept telling them those carb numbers were too high for me…and yep I gained weight!

So January of this year I started running…(more than anything because I was always told I couldn’t)
I am super duper slow, but still running.

Weight has been slowly creeping back up into the 190’s (DO not want to hit the 200# mark) and CICO does not work at all!!!

So, I decided to try KETO!!!

I jump 100% into everything! I researched, I planned, I prepped.

24 hours in I was already in Ketosis!!! WOW!!! This is going to work! 36 hours in I could not get out of bed! I was miserable for the next 1-2 weeks! I made KETOaide and drank and drank.

I do not have a scale…I become too obsessed

No hypoglycemia! Woot! Woot!

So…This is me! I do follow fairly strictly (I really try) I have read and read the forums.

My Keto Moto Results are interesting…

But I am sometimes very very hungry in the evening…I eat and wake up full.

I signed up for a race in June which is next weekend…it is 6.2 miles split into two legs. (Relay Market to Market race).

I would love to talk to anybody who could give me advice on how to eat next Saturday…
How to learn if I am getting close to fat adapted.
and Generally just follow with like minded people who are excited about a journey to health and well being.

Thanks in Advance!

Michelle

Welcome aboard Michelle!

I bet you’ll be well fat adapted soon if not already!

At 6.2 miles I’d think some would say to not eat anything, and maybe just drink water.

Wow, Michelle. That’s amazing!
Sorry I don’t have any running advice, but you enthusiasm is contagious! :+1:

Good luck in the race! :running_woman:

Thank you!

Awesome! I am so excited to do this…I will try not eating. If I get hungry should I eat?

If I were you I will not plan a race at a transition period.

In my opinion and according to your description you are a good candidate for a success story with keto.

succeeding with the health issues and improving the health life quality are the priority

I would skip the race to the next one when you are out of transition.

So just be patient .

Since keto, I have not gone into any sporting event with food in my tummy. I’ll have the last bit an hour prior. I do that to make sure there’s ample blood for muscles and not diverted to digestion.

Sooo…I can’t back out of this race as it is a team event (8 person relay) and I signed up way before starting Keto…

That being said…we are “Team Sloth.” We have no expectations to win or place. It is simply for experience and a social event. Our motto “We will get there when we get there.”

I know I will walk the last mile of both of my 3.1 legs as my heart rate staying in the 180’s over a prolonged period of time is not in my best interest.

I also agree I am probably in a transiting State as I get very hungry if I skip lunch.

Yet, I am not bottoming our anymore my lowest BG was 66 on Saturday Blood ketones 2.1.

Thank you!

UPDATE:
I ended up with a nasty stomach virus the night before the race. So, I did not run it. I am still feeling the after effects and can’t hardly eat! My BG is great (70’s) and BK (2.5 yesterday).
Just bummed…I am guessing I am learning how to do IF by default.
