Hi,
I just joined the Forum because I like the 2 Dudes.
2012 was quite the challenge.
05/11/2012 Diagnosed with breast cancer
05/21/2012 Diagnosed with Celiac disease.
Needless to say I had about 30 Dr. appointments in a 2.5 month period.
I had a lumpectomy 06/13, started radiation 07/31, and started a 5 year course of Tamoxifen in September 2012.
As far as diet, I immediately went gluten free. In July I discovered The Primal Blueprint and lost 13 lbs in two weeks. Hit a stall then of course the food mourning began along with vacation and holidays so I regained the weight. Ever since the only way I could lose weight was Weight Watchers (I loathe WW). At my yearly PCP visit in May 2013 all blood work was great. In September 2013 I had to have my biometrics measured for 2014 health insurance. The clinic called me and said my A1C was 5.7 and I should go see my Dr. I was flabbergasted and I freaked out. I had been strict low carb for 4 months. I visited my PCP and she said Tamoxifen increases your chances of developing diabetes, and naturally the Oncologist said no. At this point I started checking my fasting glucose everyday. it would range from 100-115. I tried cardio to bring my fasting glucose down but it did not work, so I tried HIIT which worked. As life goes I did HIIT for a year than slowed down. Long story short in March 2017 my A1C was 7. The nurse who called to tell me said that meant diabetes under good control. The nurse did not say I should follow up in a few months nor did she suggest I do anything to alleviate the problem. I was angry and I was 6 months away from stopping the Tamoxifen. I was strict low carb for 2 months then decided out of frustration not to worry about it until after September. So, I was bad for 4 months eating nachos frequently, snacking, and having ice cream once a week. Whenever I quit Tamoxifen I did not change my habits but I thought I would lose a few pounds. I ended up gaining 5 lbs. Then someone mentioned the snake diet in a FB post, so I started fasting and keto on re-feed. I have lost 20 lbs. and maintained since January. I need to lose another 15-20 labs, but I have not done any fasts longer than 48 hours since March. My A1C in March was 5.3. WooHoo!
