I was diagnosed T2 probably about 15 years ago. I did a pretty good job managing it for years. About 10 years ago I went to a doctor who claimed he could help me reverse it. Other than selling me a bunch of supplements, his advise was essentially eat 0 glycemic for 6 months.
So take a glycemic chart and what is common sense nutrition I set about failing miserably (low carb, low fat, moderate protein, always hungry, etc etc). I saw a newsletter from this doctor a few days ago and see that he is now recommending that everyone should be eating 60-70% fat and what he calls syndrome 0 patients should be eating 90% fat. Then I see some more info and recipes. He’s basically recommending keto now.
I think back and realize if I knew then that I could have bacon and cheese and hamburgers it may have been more maintainable.
In any case I find myself at a make or break point. I have to make this work. I am mad as hell (looking forward to catching up to that podcast called mad as hell) because I have wasted so much of my life constantly given what I would call horrible advise and drugs up to and including a doctor family member telling me i’ll reverse the diabetes as soon as I get “the surgery” (e.g. bypass or lapband).
I have been toying with how to “go keto” for a few weeks now, even made some keto options for Christmas dinner but I only really went hard-core this weekend. Unfortunately I ended the weekend (due to wanting to relax after a long drive) having some alcohol (spirits no sugars) which I suspect contributed to not getting my glucose under control yet (after 3 days).
last week I discovered someone at work that is keto and he introduced me to 2 keto dudes. much to my wife’s annoyance we listened for 3 hours up and 3 hours back.
But I will keep calm and keto on.
