Well since there isn’t a dedicated Intro section I figured I will add mine here as I am somewhat of noob to the keto lifestyle.
My name is Evan I am 29 years old and I am from Pittsburgh Pa (the steel city). Over the last 10-12 years I have always battled my weight. I grew up as a kid who loved cookie, peanut butter, ice cream, and many more. You could say that growing up I had a thing for Little Debbie and all her wonderful treats.
As I got older my weight would increase then I would crash diet with the “low fat” diets that are always preached by doctors and nutritional experts. I would go to the doctors get my blood drawn and was advised to “diet” and come back in 6 months for a follow up. Most of the time the follow up ended with myself gaining even more weight after loosing some in the first month or two and gaining more. I felt as if I was doomed to just be big.
Well fast forward to November 2015, I have reached my tipping point. I weighed in at a staggering 292 pounds. I had to squeeze into a 38 size jeans and tying my shoes seemed like a chore ( I had to take a deep breath, bend down tie my shoes and hope to not run out of air.) To say I was out of shape and on the verge of major health issues would be and understatement. It was at this time I would try my best to change my life.
In 2016 I dropped a good 25 pounds in three months on the infamous “low fat” diet. However it never seemed to do much more than that. I would fluctuated between 265 and 270 most of 2016 until one Preformatted textday in October I came across the “keto diet.” A diet full of fat, minimal protein, and very low carbs? This had to be a joke, right? WRONG!!!
I started doing some reading, watching, and listening to this keto diet info and heard this term, “Insulin Resistance!” My word, could this be me, could this be why I tend to gain weight on the low fat diets? I felt like I found the holy grail in my life.
I purchased Keto clarity and things finally started to all make sense!! This was the answer to fixing my health and finally after 12 years getting back to the size and weight I wanted. On November 1st I started my keto journey. My starting weight was 270. Over November and December I was able to drop 24 pounds by hitting my fats and keeping the protein to a minimum and low carbs (under 20 net carbs a day). January came and I being an 8 week training program that I followed for lifting and cardio but did not follow the nutrition as it was the low fat diet. I started out at 246 I stuck to my keto and found the weight and fat to come off like nothing. By the time the 8 week program was over I had lost another 40 pounds and I weighed in a 206! Man oh man I haven’t see weight like this since highschoool.
The keto life has changed my life and has opened my eyes to what a person can achieve when they actually treat the problem (insulin resistance) and not a symptom ( obesity). Had I never come across keto I would probably be over 300 pounds.
It’s my goal and passion to share this life style with as many people as possible and help change lives.
