Indoor exercise

(Togipeidia) #1

I have stalled and think exercise is the ticket to break the stall. Does any one have some exercise YouTube videos they would suggest or something like that I live in northern Canada so outdoor exercise isn’t an option at times due to weather (it’s -40 degrees Celsius today)

I’m about to start doing this, several times a day, while the weather makes cycling unpalatable.

Can’t be too hard

I recently wrote a post on my website. It had to do with my belief that exercise is not a driver of weight loss. There is substantial research that supports my contention.

That said I write with a body that tells me that it has been exercised.

On my blog I wrote,

Exercise used to energize and enliven is outstanding. But it doesn’t measure up for fat loss.

My exercise is to walk as I am able. Inside, I have a routine based on my reading of the Resistance Bands Workbook. I am aggressive enough to do multiple sets of 8 -10 exercises.

The advantages of bands

  • inside
  • inexpensive
  • no partners are needed
  • intensity is under my control

Works for me…

 Start off slow and slowly increase the intensity. A simple routine like @Capnbob depicted is a good start and you can then slowly increase the intensity. Like @arichardc said it might not exactly drive weight ‘loss’, but the fact you are moving and doing something really helps settle the mind and it’s great watching your strength and endurance grow (as your waistline shrinks :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:). Having said that I love exercise

Get a rebounder :grinning:

In the past rebounders worked well for me.

I believe we need to think about results. Cardio, strength, combinations. Rebuilding a shattered body is different than sculpted or let me reshape that horseshoe programs.

I know this is obvious but it’s what I need to remind myself.

In the book “Slow Burn Fitness Revolution” there’s a great home routine with free weights in the super slow “slow burn” style that I’ve loved doing. It’s really intense when you go slow, and creates quite a mitchondrial activation that leverages the usual keto muscle feeding.

99% of muscle mass increase (and its thermogenic & mitochondrial benefits) is in the diet alone. 99%!!! Which is amazing. And, the other 1% that strength training can provide accelerates and rejuvenates mitochondrial & lymphatic processes for amazing metabolic power and general radiance that creates positive cycles.

Just 30 mins a week helps not just the body, but also the mind. It’s incredible how the physiological changes and the self-pride in keeping one’s commitment to training (despite needing to have longer breaks sometimes) creates positive feedback for the psyche and lifts the spirit in spite of winter gloom or summer heatwaves.

Of course, the first several sessions of a new training routine can involve lots of post workout soreness as the body adjusts. And, depending on mineral balances and stress levels, that soreness (DOMS) can happen for even experienced trainers. Fortunately, with a well-formulated keto w.o.e. and plenty of salt and potassium along with anti-inflammatories such as Ginger or Turmeric capsules, the soreness passes well and the obvious enhancement of the metabolism is quite a joy in my experience.

The authors of that book - trainer Fred Hahn, and Drs. Mary Dan Eades & Michael Eades - are longtime advocates of the ketogenic/LCHF way of life.

What I love about the routine in there is that there are suggested substitutions for those who don’t own any dumbbells - such as using gallon containers with different amounts of water, or cans of green beans  Plus, it allows one to avoid the microbial grossness and blasting TVs or club music of gym environments.

I would definitely agree with others here that exercise isn’t the key to weight loss but for muscle toning and mental health it’s pretty great. Have you heard of the programs Insanity, P90x, PiYo? They are all on a streaming service I use. I workout exclusively indoors so find I need good variety

Great thanks for the recommendation I started today although I can’t do push ups it is great

Hey @Amy_Adam! Thanks for starting this thread. i’m also affected by the cold snaps (I’m in Edmonton) and was just whining about not being able to get out and Do Something when I saw your message. It may not be -40 this week but it’s as slippery as shit and I’d rather not fall over.

I’ve just done 2 reps of the Zach Bush workout and am feeling virtuous!

We are practically neighbors lol I live 2hours away from Edmonton.
