Increasing Fasting Duration

I naturally IF 16/8 most days but am interested in the benefits of fasting for longer periods. I am attempting to fast 40-48 hours. I last ate at 730 last night. Any else fast for longer periods? Tips to getting past the initial phase when I want to eat out of habit?

I would take baby steps, from 16-8 go to OMAD, (One Meal A Day) then se if you can make it to the next morning for a 36 hour fast. Most important thing is keep electrolytes up. and drink when you think you are hungry to see if that chases away the “Hunger”

Okay, thanks. Great advice. I am currently at 21 hours and feeling fine. I do have what seems to be hunger pangs, but it’s not horrible. I think I will do like you said and start with eating once a day for a bit.

I’m currently on day 3 of my first ever 14 day fast.

The thing that helps me the most is distraction. If a big pang hits, I get in the car and go run an errand. The pangs only seem to last 20 minutes or less.

UPDATE: I completed a 24 hour fast and was able to eat about 900 calories when I broke the fast. I feel fine, but am glad I decided to ease into and do some 24 hour fasts before moving to something longer.

ADDITIONAL QUESTION: How often in one week should someone complete a 24 hour fast (essentially just eating once a day)? For me I was very very much below calories and I don’t want to unintentionally slow my metabolism, but I would also like to reap the benefits of fasting.
