In it for the long haul

Hi all. First I want to thank my son and his wife for steering me to the keto lifestyle. I believe it’s not a diet.
So I was first told about 25 years ago that my triglicerydes were high. So I took Gemfibrizol since then. But I never changed what I ate or drank. Fast forward to 2016. By then I was taking Metformin.
I’m a truck driver and am subject to DOT regulations. They require a physical every two years. My urine test showed a level of sugar that was very high. Total shocker. Not sure how high, but it was bad enough that I was shut down for 3 weeks until I could show low sugar levels for 3 days straight. I modified my carb intake a little bit after that but I was just fooling myself.
I used to pack my little lunchbox with sandwich bags with potato chips, tortilla chips, crackers. I rationalized that by having bags full of grapes, canteloupe and pineapple, carrots etc. I figured the fruit would cancel out the chips, etc. LOL
Last month I had a heart stress test. My dad died at 38 of a massive heart attack. I’ll be 60 next year so I asked my Doc about a stress test.
The doc saw blockage so I got scheduled for an angiogram Sure enough there was 80% blockage in an artery. In went a stent.
July 23 was a week after my surgery. That is when I decided to get serious. My kids helped me out a lot with getting started. I’ve been listening to Carl and Richard every day at work. I started with #1 and I do about 4 episodes every day when I’m on the road.
I’ve been on this for a month and I feel amazing. I have never felt this alive and together. I no longer need prescription glasses. This has changed my life and I’ll do this lifestyle for the rest of my life.
Here’s a couple numbers from my last blood test in June 2018:
Total cholesterol-226
Hdl-37.6
LDL-152
Triglycerides-184
A1C-10.8

Congrats on your progress so far and on making maybe the best health related decision of your life :grinning:

Thanks Allie. My wife has started this too. Different reasons but who cares. I wish I had known about Keto years ago. I think we all probably feel that way.

Maybe @CandyLindTX can be of some help as she is also a truck driver and has learned all the Keto tricks to help in her journeys.:slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks Ron. Luckily for me I’m home every night. I don’t envy the Drivers who are out for weeks at a time. I couldn’t do it.

Lucky sucker, a local driver! I’ve been so busy (and had two funerals) that the forum logged me out!! But I never stopped eating keto! :muscle: I bet you don’t need any help from me - you found this forum, and the more you read and listen, the better you can focus in on your own “N=1”.

Yes I am lucky, in that area of my life. But I’m really enjoying learning about this way to improve myself. At least physically. The other stuff is more of a challenge.
