I'm thankful for Keto because

I am so thankful I found Keto… I had a major victory over the weekend. I made my kids easter baskets and did not once have a piece of candy I was putting in their baskets. In the past, I have. I didn’t even really care…

I also was able to eat a great Easter meal and I managed to stay in Ketosis even though I had more to eat than I normally do and even indulged in a Keto dessert (Cheesecake) that I made! WOOOO… Just so greatful!

I pretty much flew through yesterday…but I still crave my homemade yeast raised rolls. Didn’t eat them, but man are they good.
I can skip the sweets.

I am thankful for Keto because… well, I think it probably saved my life. Not sure if it would have been a heart attack or a stroke of what it would have been. But I was not on a good road.

Easter was not an issue at all. Simple food, mostly leftovers for dinner. They were really, really good leftovers, don’t get me wrong. Hamburger steaks with a variety of small bits of veggies and a keto muffin with coffee for dessert. Pretty good eats.

Now, this coming week may be a challenge. Kids & grandkids will be swarming later today and I suspect the food feasting will be incredible. I may even eat a few things non-keto. But mostly, I doubt I’ll get too far from my regular diet. Lots of beef, chicken and turkey in the freezer with lots of intentions. A large shoulder roast is in the sous vide as we speak. Plenty of good veggies, too. Plus, I have plans to make some keto muffins of several different kinds before they arrive. I figure I’ll do the best I can and not worry too much. It’s only a few days that they’ll be here.

I’m grateful because the blood work from my latest physical came back completely normal, except for the HDL and triglycerides (which means I am one of Dave Feldman’s hyper-responders; I’ll know what to do next time to get the ratio better). My blood pressure is fully normal, instead of borderline high (at best), and my heart rate was down in the low 70’s for the first time in a long time.

Even though my belly is still bigger than I would like I was able to wear some 38" pants I got for Christmas—still a little hard to button, but they were perfectly comfortable once I got them on, and they don’t even have stretchy sides! And I was able to eat normal portions of Easter dinner—no pigging out, and not even a taste of the sugary dessert. If you know me, you know how weird that all is!

I keep forgetting to take my asthma inhalers, and I’m only taking half the dose of anti-depressant I used to, as well. Amazing!

After 2 years of CICO, walking 1,000 miles and gym 4-5 weekly, I lost 20 lbs and my diabetic & BP numbers hardly improved. Went Keto and (drum roll)
Day 1: threw away my statins
2 wks - halved my diabetes medications
4 wks- dropped all medications except metformin, BP meds and aspirin
2 mos- dropped all meds, A1c 6.0
5 mos- no medications for 3 mos, A1c 5.9

Weight loss and inches lost : pure bonus side effects

I am relatively new to keto. Currently my weight is stalled, but it’s AOK because I have lost an inch and haven’t gained it back, I sleep better, my skin is better, rosacea isn’t as bad, I’m not falling asleep at my desk nearly as much when at work (), and I am not as inflamed.
