Oh my God I’m so thankful for this site! I saw the post two days ago about chaffles and how to make them.
I ordered myself a mini waffle maker from Amazon, and it arrived yesterday. I made the chaffles for dinner last night with salami pepperoni and cheese and it was so filling and so delicious!!! I had no desire whatsoever to snack in the evening. I had prepared two extra for breakfast today, popped them into the toaster to warm up, spread half an avocado between the two, laid down two strips of crispy bacon on each piece, and topped with cheese. I have died and gone to heaven. I am so full!!! I can’t wait for lunch LOL!! I truly feel I’m not missing out on bread whatsoever with this substitute. I am now in love with chaffles

Yep- that’s keto. Answer to our prayers.
Check out Headbangers Keto Mac And Cheese on youtube.
I just took a look at the mac and cheese recipe and it looks amazing! One question though, on this kind of eating plan / lifestyle. With more fat incorporated into our diet do any of you know if it has a direct impact on somebody’s cholesterol?
You will have to ask the cholesterol experts here. I want to lose 30-40 kilos and then I will worry about that. The health benefits of weighing so much less far outweigh any other concerns right now. But this is a fat based WOE. So for now I am concentrating on eating FAT. They say once you start burning fat for energy, those values in the blood should lessen too.
Some people do that because they think whole-egg chaffles make them taste too eggy.
I started cracking whole eggs into a shaker cup for my chaffle-making. Since I create my chaffles by putting the mini-waffle maker on my kitchen scale, it makes it easier to layer the 10 grams shredded cheese + 25 grams beaten eggs + 10 grams shredded cheese. I used to get overflow too often when I eyeballed everything.
My chaffle-making station:
Some ketoers, with their reduced appetite, need to prioritize proteins. That’s the macro you don’t want to skimp on.
For myself, I don’t need to add unnecessary fat to my diet. I have plenty of stored body fat I need to be using.
I suppose we are all different. For me, I need to eat fat to keep my body using fat. On a weight loss stall, if I want to hurry up the process, I have to add fat and eliminate more carbs to jump start again. It’s like I am teaching my body to use fat. That said, I think stalls are necessary if you are losing a ton of weight. But not if you are just losing a few pounds.
It seems to me sometimes carnivore and keto get mixed up. Carnivore definitely contains a lot of proteins.
Yo I want some chaffles. I cant have a waffle maker because of my parrot - nonstick is a huge no-no! Boooooo. Pout. Will someone make them for me?
No stick will be ok around your parrot (what kind? I have two Goffins Cockatoos) IF you don’t take your eye of the chaffle maker and stop it as soon as it stops giving off steam. The issue with Teflon is overheating, like walking away with the waffle iron left on. It has to get pretty hot to give off poisonous gases. Also, I wouldn’t use it with the parrot next to it, s/he should be in a different room. That drastically reduces the chance of inhaling a whiff of burnt Teflon.
I hear you, but I’m a neurotic, paranoid, overly-safe bird mommy. I dont own a single non-stick thing. Overkill? Yeah, probably, but with my luck, Id go to make a chaffle and he’d die to death instantly. Not worth it lol. I know, I’m weird.
So again, whos makin me some chaffles? Where’s my invite? I’m darn good company!
Hi Dena,
I inherited my Mum’s waffle iron that she got as a wedding gift in 1959. It’s obviously not the teflon variety of non-stick but still manages to be completely non stick. I’d recommend haunting second hand stores and seeing if you can score a vintage iron.
Definitely not an expert or a know-it-all, but I can tell you from both my experience and others’ that your cholesterol will fluctuate, especially in the beginning until your body leans into the keto diet. So don’t freak out if you have a blood test in the first couple of months and find out cholesterol is a bit higher than usual. It will most likely regulate on its own.
No expert either, but because I want to be comfortable with my decision to not take the statin my PCP would like for me to take because of my meaningless high LDLc number, I have done a lot of research in this regard.
I am satisfied that dietary cholesterol has little if any effect on serum cholesterol levels.
Some good info about cholesterol
From the article:
To summarize the relationship between food cholesterol and blood cholesterol:
- Most cholesterol from foods does not get absorbed unless body levels are low.
- The amount of cholesterol you eat has almost no effect on your cholesterol levels.
- The vast majority of cholesterol in your body is made by your body’s own cells. Remember that creepy line from the movie When a Stranger Calls? “ The call is coming from inside the house. ” The excess cholesterol is coming from inside your body, not from the food you eat.
Even the traditional standard of care has backed off on the idea that high cholesterol foods increase serum cholesterol. But you won’t see any headlines about that.
Big media doesn’t want to scare off their big sponsors who would still have you think you need animal feed ( cereals ) to scavenge cholesterol from your digestive tract.
Obligatory reference to cholesterolcode.com for (almost) everything you ever wanted to know about diet and cholesterol hacking.
I hear you - I look forward to every meal on keto. The food is so delicious.
I’ve never made them but am tempted to get a waffle maker.
