I have been on keto for two weeks to the best of my ability and no cheating at all but with little success.
I need some help.

I'm frustrated 😢
Have you used one of the test strips to see if your body is actually in ketosis? This is my 2nd attempt at the keto diet and the first time I just started eating the way you are supposed to and saw little results. This time I started off by fasting for 4 days before starting and I monitor how many calories I eat daily along with not eating after 6pm and not eating again until about 14 hours after 6pm and am having amazing results.
I’m not showing positive for ketones but i have symptoms of ketosis. Dry mouth, frequent urination, weakness.
One day the strip was “light” for ketones.
When you say fasting do you mean intermittently?
No when I started I did a water fast for 4 days and would have a cup of coffee in the morning with coconut oil in it and that was it. I’m doing the intermittent fasting now. I would suggest maybe fasting and test yourself each day until you are fully in ketosis. Like I said the first time I didn’t have good luck with it and felt defeated and this 2nd time I have lost 18 pounds in 20 days. I’m no expert at this seeing as I’ve only been doing it for a little but I would give it a shot might just be the shock your body needs. Good luck and just stay positive.
I doubt you would need to do 4 days that’s just what it took my body but I’m pretty overweight. I’m a big dude 6’7 and started out at 318lbs and basically lived on beer and pizza. Are you doing the intermittent fasting right now?
I’ll try.
Wake between 6 and 7.
I’m retired. I either eat a low-carb breakfast of eggs maybe a scramble or omelette. Several mornings I’ve had bulletproof coffee. I eat salads with meat fish I have had steak a couple times but I’m not much of a steak eater, I eat some cheese a little bit of nuts here and they’re not much. I’m usually staying below 20 carbs. I started writing everything down . Trying to drink lots of water.
I had been running 2 to 3 miles or long walks about three times a week maybe four but lately it’s been difficult because I feel weak .
A couple days here and there I have experimented with bulletproof coffee coconut oil cream and butter
A few things…
- pee strips are an unreliable tool for testing ketones. When I say unreliable, I mean pretty worthless! The only reliable way to test is with a blood ketone meter or a breath meter like Ketonix. Neither of these are essential though and you just need to keep plodding on. If you are eating 20g carbs or less a day, moderate protein and fat to satiety you will be in ketosis. Getting fat adapted can take time though - more like a few months. That is not to say you won’t start feeling the benefits but it will likely be a slow build rather than a turning on the light bulb moment.
- the best approach to keto is as a long-term lifestyle change. 2 weeks is a drop in the ocean!
- how do you define success? Try keeping a journal and tracking all sorts of things, not just weight - mood, stress, sleep, measurements, pics, health markers.
- just take it easy! Your body is changing how it functions so be kind to it!
- are you restocking on electrolytes? 1-2 tsps of rock salt a day will likely lift your mood and energy. Magnesium is also worth supplementing (preferably not oxide). Potassium is best taken via food so look for rich sources like avocado.
Other than that, just KCKO and be patient!
I am 59 years old 5’3"
I got up to 139 pounds which is the most I’ve ever weighed I’m not really sure why I’m gaining it’s just coming on in the last couple years
very hard for me to lose weight in a low calorie diet always has been like my metabolism Is stuck!
I exercise regularly always have .
Google “Fat Fasting”. It will kick you into Ketosis and you will see some fast results. I just finished 8 days and lost 12 lbs as of this morning. Today I’ll transition back into ketogenic diet for the weekend (then I’ll plan on Fat Fasting Monday -Friday). I also IF during this 14-18hours a day. I will still restrict my carbs to 10 grams (all leafy green veggies) and limit my protein intake.
You might try a 24 or 48 hour fat fast just to get started. I’ve done fat fast before and they get easier every time. I haven’t done a water fast in 10 years. I’m thinking about and researching it. I think I was brain washed by faulty information that water fasting caused muscle loss, slowed down my metabloism and could hurt my heart.
Researching it now I don’t think I believe this anymore.
Hope this helps.
Yes I have been taking magnesium also a potassium supplement
when I feel weak water and particularly broth helps tremendously
I don’t mind if it takes longer just would love to know that I’m on the right track
I actually like this diet as I feel like I have been calorie counting my whole life it’s nice to be able to eat things that I’ve always avoided
Another symptom I have is a decreased appetite although the days that I am able to work out my appetite is better but I still am eating daily
I’m on week 5 and it’s gotten a lot easier. I was weak and had keto flu big time, especially in first 3 weeks. To get out of that, I took the following advice which I found on this and other websites:
- Eat lots and LOTS of fat (I shoot for 100g/day)
- Eat lots and LOTS of sodium (I shoot for 4000mg+/day)
- Eat just enough protein for your size and activity level, and no more (for me that’s about 50g/day)
- Drink plenty of water when thirsty
Following those few guidelines I’m now feeling much much better. I believe getting a LOT of sodium (and water) is key in fixing the weakness. Weakness is due to loss of electrolytes which eases up if you get enough sodium.
I feel better; you will too. It takes patience. You can do it!
My best friend stalls and doesn’t lose weight on this diet when she eats any form of dairy. Once she cut out the cheese she started losing weight.
