I'm afraid of my cravings

(Mike Hensley) #1

Eeek! I’m going from memory, but I feel like it was said in the 2KD podcast that if you’re fat adapted and you have cravings for sugar or carbs, that means that you somehow ingested sugar or carbs and your brain is once again triggered to want those things.

Am I recalling correctly? As I sit here at the airport lounge, I have this HUGE urge for a soda and cookies or brownies.

Lord help me, I’ll white-knuckle through this. But man oh man I’d love to have something sweet right about now. It’s a shame I don’t have any keto-sweets on hand. Next time, Gadget.

So because I’m having these cravings, does it mean something knocked me out of ketosis? Am I screwing up yet again?

It might have been said, but it certainly doesn’t seem to be correct.

It is definitely ONE of the possible triggers, but far from the only one. Welcome to the wonderful world of smell…

Are you stressed about flying or something? Cortisol can trigger sugar cravings, if I’m not mistaken.

Or are you associating the airport with treats?

(Michael Iafrato ) #4

I was thinking the same thing. The airport could be triggering the craving.

(Mike Hensley) #5

Yeah I think that may be it. A deep, lurking association with airports/airplanes and snacks/sodas.

Well, if anything, I’ve now learned I definitely need to keep some Keto emergency snacks on hand for situations like this. Because lord knows that a good fat bomb would sure do the trick right about now :stuck_out_tongue:

I flew today for the first time in a while. Got auto upgraded to 1st class because I used to fly 50 weeks a year. I was offered so much alcohol and snacks. Might even have been some peanuts in there. I kind of had an out of body experience. The physical me said no. The ethereal me said, is that you refusing free food and booze? The physical self won. But a bad weather flight day and it might have been different.

What @juice says about nose hunger is truth. Part of my job is baking desserts… pies, cakes, cookies, cobblers and such… and the smell is very compelling. I can stare at finished desserts all day and not be tempted, but when it’s in the oven and the aroma hits me, my mouth often waters.

At times when I am most stimulated by smells, I will have a nibble on some cheese or a few nuts and my mouth and nose calm down.

Don’t mention bombs at the airport!!

If you run towards fear it dosn’t exist.
Just look.
This is an experiment.

I usually make a Keto mug cake with sugar cravings. But have not had cravings in a long time. I’m 4 months in tho. Good luck. Get Keto snacks

Or a bag of maccas!

Yeah, my roommate has taken to making toast lately. I’m not loving that.

I consider those NSV’s. This past weekend went over to my mom’s; told her I pick up dinner for them and family. They ordered pizza from a favorite pizza place. I went to pick it up and was smelling what I used to crave. Time came to eat; I was good. Not hungry and while it smelled good knew what it does to the inside of us/me. Now, I been making the fathead pizza’s so that might have something to do with that craving.

(Carl Keller) #14

For sure it’s a NSV. It’s control of what of you put in your mouth, even when your nose and eyes are telling you something different. I am not afraid of smelling carby deliciousness but it is an inconvenience sometimes.

(Running from stupidity) #15

Yeah, well, that’s a VERY good thing
