I'm a dumbass

So I fell oh the Keto wagon for the very first time last nigh in a very bad way…I ate 4 oatmeal and raisin cookies…really??? Did I need those??? No!!! I just couldn’t help it:(. They were right there, right in front of me…ugh, so mad at myself right now😞 How long does it typically take to get back in ketosis after cheating?

(jilliangordona) #2

Dont beat yourself up! Getting back into ketosis will depend how keto adapted you are. Fasting and exercise will be the fastest way to get back, but if you don’t normally do those things, just keep calm and keto on.

This is 100% n=1, but I in the beginning that a small cheat and then going right back to keto gave me a “whoosh” effect and would break a stall for me. But I know that’s very rare.

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #3

I would love for this to break the stall for me😀 I have a feeling it won’t… I feel so bloated this morning, but I’m off to a good start as far as breakfast goes and plan to keep it very clean today. I could just kick myself, actually I should kick my husband lol, he’s the one that bought the cookies.

(jilliangordona) #4

It happens!! I started keto in November, and have fallen off the horse probably 5 times until becoming serious again in march

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #5

Yes, I guess we are all human after all:) this is the only diet I’ve tried that I can mostly stick to and not feel hungry

(jilliangordona) #6

Isn’t it amazing? I find the only time I seem to cheat is when I let myself get really hungry and I don’t have many options.

I am currently trying to do a 24 hour fast for the first time, stopped eating at 5:30 last night, will be driving to the beach until 5:30 today. I am so nervous I’ll grab some carbs when we get there! But I packed some yummy fats so I should be good to go.

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #7

Good for you! I am to chicken to try a fast yet😳 I will try one soon though, I am sure it would be good for me. What beach are you heading to?

(jilliangordona) #8

It took me a while to try it… lots of intermittent fasting first to get used to not eating. It’s not that I’m hungry all of the time… I just love food and always want to eat it!!

I am heading to Sea Grove Beach in Florida… first vacation in a long tomeB

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #9

I think that’s my problem, I eat even if I’m not hungry, just sort of out of habit. I hope you have a great time at the beach!

#10

Eh, I’ve done WAY worse than that. If your fully adapted I wouldn’t worry about it. When I do something stupid although it’s usually intentional when I do I’ll usually do a fast the next day to empty back out and I’m back on track. Can’t obsess about it march forward! If I eat something that backfired and starts making me crave stuff I switch to fat fast mode and load up on the fattiest stuff I can find to wipe out any wants to eat stupid.

(jilliangordona) #11

Drinking La Croix has helped me kick that habit… the carbonation makes me feel like I am eating something moreso than water

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #12

Thank you for pepping me up, I needed that:) Bacon for lunch lol!

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #13

I’ll have to try that! I’ve seen it but never tasted it

(Danielle) #14

I also had a little slip up last night… hot dog (with bun), then a granola bar, then yogurt. It was here and I was bored. But today is a new day, I drank 30oz of water before breakfast and breakfast was pepperoni and cheese. Another 16 oz of water and lunch will be eggs and bacon. It’s important to acknowledge the misstep and focus on the next step. PROGRESS; NOT PERFECTION (thanks @meganjramos). A little slip up doesn’t un-do all the good you’ve done so far. Keep Calm and Keto On!

(Jenny Andersson Ilgenfritz) #15

Yes, it is my first slip up so I just have to get over it lol. It’s amazing how fast my bonus reacts to carbs. I feel so bloated and yucky today

(Carey) #16

The best part of a slip up is the gift of lessons learned. Try to anchor in your mind the crappy bloated feeling you are experiencing so you can remember it the next time you are in front of a plate of cookies (or bread or cake). The “ouch” is a much stronger motivator than the “shouldn’t” in my experience.

Are you feeling better now that another day has passed?

(Christopher Bingel) #17

You know what the most fruitless use of energy in the world is? Being upset about something that can’t be changed.

Cookies happen. You didn’t kick a puppy or hit somebody with your car, you ate cookies. I bet they were delicious, too.

This is why Keep Calm and Keto On is a mantra. Drink some BPC. Eat some eggs and bacon. Go do some exercise if you really feel like you need to punish yourself. But another few days, and you won’t even remember the cookies.

You are NOT what you eat, you are what you do .

(Christopher Bingel) #18

And you’ll remember that the next time you find yourself looking at a dessert menu. Eventually you’ll find that cheats are a choice instead of a failure of willpower. You’ll blow past the Oreos, but choose to have one or two of Grandma’s home made treats instead of a whole plate.

I’m in recovery for what I consider food addiction or some might call it compulsive overeating.

It takes awhile for triggers to go away and binge urges to lessen. It could take years if you are a long timer Return to Keto will be relatively fast in comparison.

Take care and take note of the thought process or trigger that lead to the choice. Onward.

You and me both, lady.

Good luck, and keep coming back. We’re stronger together than we are alone!
