If you accidently eat too many carbs... best way to get back on track?

(Ryan Tuttle) #1

So i find eating LCHF to be surprisingly easy except for when social pressure comes into play.

Today i was out with a friend and i got buffalo wings. They said that the wings were tossed in corn starch. But i figured there cant be that many carbs in such a fine coating.

Then i got home and my aunt gave me a piece of teriyaki. No sooner did i pop it in my mouth did i realize dang this is really sweet meat.

Anyways my urine keto test seems to have droped from 4.0 to “trace”. Possibly it was the carbs or just too much protein or both idk.

So i was wondering… should i just not eat anything for a while? Or should i eat through it to bump up my fat? I definetely start to get hungrier when my urine ketone levels drop.

I suspect ill be back on track by tomorrow evening as it was only a minor side step. When i was on vacation i went totally off keto for 4 days and it took about 40 hours to get back. Im assuming it wont be that long this time

We will see.

I’m in the same boat. I was strict keto for a month. Always in ketosis.

Today was a pool party and I had 1 beer and a piece of chocolate cake (it was a Costco cake with chocolate shavings and I had no choice bc I wanted it so bad- ha!)

I am chugging water and will test again tomorrow.

I’m assuming a good workout to deplete the newly created glycogen will expedite things?

I suspect work out would probably work too. Unfortunetaly i cant exercise as im recovering from a car accident.

Relax. Just start eating right again. If you’ve been keto for a while and are fat adapted then a fast would expedite things…

I suspect i am or am starting to be fat adapted. Im curious to see what i test at in the morning.

Just get back on track and carry on.

Bacon and eggs!
No seriously, life happens. If you are hungry, eat keto foods, stay hydrated, and keep calm and keto on.

Some people do fasts or do endurance exercises, but the important thing is not to treat it like a punishment. If you aren’t ready for fasting or don’t like endurance training or just don’t feel like it, just get back on the horse and don’t worry about it.

Not to steal your thread but we both seemed to have done the same thing, sort of.

Yesterday around 6 pm I had a piece of cake (assuming about 125g carbs). Pee strip was white.
This AM at 7am pee strip was slightly barely pink. I ate no breakfast and walked on the treadmill for an hour and did light weights. Pee strip is back to normal purple at 10am.

Not that this is encouraged but it seems I snapped back into ketosis in about 16 hours doing the empty stomach walk.

Curious what happened to you today.

This morning it was pink the level above “trace”. I know pee strips arnt all that accurate but i never tested negative. Typically i test at 4.0 and apparently it just dipped briefly.

Costco cake is my krytonite! Yum, I love it

I’ll either use some HIIT training, intermittent fasting, or both. That gets me back in ketosis quickly.
