If they only knew

I’m listening to the talking heads on a morning show talk about how the average person spends about 240 hours a year thinking about food. All I can think is, “I feel SO sorry for y’all!” Feeling #FoodWoke :rainbow::avocado::bacon::cheese::weight_lifting_woman:

(Full Metal KETO AF) #2

I actually spend most of my time thinking about food, keto food that is! As a person who made their living in kitchens and bakeries I guess that is natural though, I have food on the brain!:cowboy_hat_face::bacon::poultry_leg::cut_of_meat::eggplant::avocado::leafy_green::cucumber::hot_pepper::broccoli::meat_on_bone::cheese::hot_pepper::hot_pepper::hot_pepper::hot_pepper::hot_pepper::hot_pepper:

That seems low. I think about food all the time. Probably more like 2400 hours.

(less is more, more or less) #4

Same here. I’m not hungry all the time, but surely thinking about food.

(Janelle) #5

I think about food all the time. It kind of dictates my day. I have to be strict and I typically track because when I don’t, I don’t lose weight. I envy those people who apparently have piles of bacon and steaks sitting around.

After I started keto I lost my appetite and my doctor (who recommended the diet) said that means I’m in nutritional ketosis. Is that not true?

(Eric - The patient needs to be patient!) #7

Probably means you are fat adapted and burning your own body fat. Some of us retain our appetite.

240 hours a year is less than one hour per day. I spend way more time thinking about food: what am I going to have for breakfast, cooking breakfast, eating breakfast, what am I going to have for lunch, cooking lunch, … you get the idea.

Plus the time spend meal planning for the week, and grocery shopping which is usually several trips durning a week, spending time on this forum (which frequently revolves around food), I spend those 240 hours in about two months time. People who only spend 240 hours per year thinking about food must eat out for every meal so they don’t have to think about it.

Until keto, I probably spent just about every waking hour thinking about food. Keto has certainly saved my sanity, if not my life

(Raj Seth) #10

and some retain our appetites and the neighbors appetites, and so on…

(Running from stupidity) #11

Same. What I can eat next, how best to cook it, how to change it to improve it and reduce carbs, how to plate it, how to shoot it … 2400 might be low

Well, “thinking about food” is a pretty broad category.

I think about food a lot more now than I did before. “Mindfulness” is part of healthy eating.

Just stuffing whatever tastes good or some recently viewed commercial put you in the mood for is not ideal for health or weight maintenance.

So yes, I feel sorry for those people who don’t think a lot more about food - what it contains, which choices are healthy, when to eat, how much to eat, how it affects their health and longevity. I used to be one of them.

If Im awake for 17 hrs a day I probably spend 12 hours thinking about food. How can I make better food in larger quantities with less carbs… Having said that I’ve been up for 8 hours now and still haven’t eaten.
Appetite is gone but I still daydream about it :sparkling_heart:

I also think about food quite a bit but how the thinking affects me has drastically changed. The mere idea of a dozen freshly made Krispy Kreme donuts used to get me all juiced up but now I’m thinking about the ribeye that’s waiting for me at dinner time.

I certainly still look forward to eating but I would compare it to how, in the past, I might have looked forward to having a few beers in the evening, to relax… as opposed to " I can’t wait to get drunk".

It’s not when I’m thinking about it that there is a problem. It’s when I don’t think about it that I find myself at the bottom of a bag of Tostitos.

I like to tell people the truth, and that is I haven’t felt Hungry since April 2018 :joy:

(Running from stupidity) #17

Doesn’t stop you eating Magnums, though

(Katie the Quiche Scoffing Stick Ninja ) #18

That is a WANT, and not a NEED ;D Hehehe

(Ken) #19

Hmmm. I’d say food is the second subject I think the most about.

(MyLove MyLife) #20

This is more for me when I am not in keto, Sometimes we are sustain by thinking of Food!!
