Ideal Blood Glucose?

(Britt Bot) #1

I have been doing keto for about 7 weeks now and I want to purchase a glucose meter shortly, but don’t have any idea what number I need to look for, so I have a couple questions below. I have searched through the other topics and haven’t really found a clear answer.

  1. What is the ideal blood glucose level while in ketosis?
  2. Is it best to test first thing in the morning?
  3. What are the best ways to test for spikes?
  4. Are there any other numbers or anything else that I should look out for or be aware of while testing?

Left a link to your Q1 below though it may answer other questions like Q4.

  1. No. You’ll generally get a false high due to dawn phenomenon. Try testing a couple hours after waking instead.

  2. If you have a suspect food, don’t eat before testing it. Test blood glucose before eating, eat the suspect food, test 30 mins-1 hr after, 2 hours after, 3 hours after if you’re feeling ambitious. This will tell you the effect it has over a timeline.
