Ice cream weakness

(Hannah O) #1

So I’ve cheated today one Keto. It felt almost like I cheated on my husband after. I’m sick to my stomach (literally) and just the over all feeling is “not good”. The satisfaction from the thrifty Ice cream was really short lived.
Now theres only guilt left, and persistent nausea.
Checked my ketone levels about 3 hours after and I’m almost completely out of ketosis.
Any tips on how to curb the sweet tooth. I’m still only in my first 3-4 weeks into keto and I was doing so well. The last couple days of increasing appetite have leads to today’s downfall. I just want all the food!

But I want to lose the weight more. So far I’ve lost and I need tk keep it that for my health.

Would appreciate some advice! Thanks from the newbie!

Guilt is a waste of energy.

But if you can’t get by without ice cream, try this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aujs8wR4rHA

She does peanut butter and chocolate – I make my own butter pecan and lemon custard. It’s amazing.

Tons of fat in the heavy cream. Perfect dessert after you’ve had a lean meal like salmon.

Let me add an edit, to say that I quit sugar (but not carbs) two years before I started keto. I got used to never tasting anything sweet long before I quit carbs. It was good for my taste buds imo, like a total reset.

But when I went keto, I started dabbling in sweeteners. I started making keto brownies. (Strictly for the iron, of course!) Finally, I was eating like a human again. You don’t actually have to deprive yourself. But it might be helpful to deprive yourself for some time.

Keep going with keto. Your taste and appetite will change. Do not look back and drool, look forward at what you can have. If you stay near the border then you may stumble. Get well away.

Many doors previously closed or discouraged on the SAD are now wide open in keto so explore really nice foods if you have the time and inclination … it doesn’t just have to be limited to bacon and eggs.

Back in the day it was known fat is what made food tasty but they took the fat out, food became tasteless and then they jammed sugar in as a replacement. But we have the power of F on our side - F for fat and F for flavour.

If you really must, there are keto friendly ice creams or smoothies and stuff but I haven’t tried them, just can’t be bothered, too busy guzzling the easy keto foods. Steak, fish, chicken, avocado, veggies with butter, cheese, coffee with cream, nuts (in sane amounts), …

Once a blue moon I have half an ounce (16g) of 85% dark chocolate. But it just sits in my draw I have little inclination to bother with it

Carbs do not satiate - they do not satisfy. Protein + fat does. You will feel full and satisfied so there’s your answer …

Cheers.

You can eat absolutely all the ice cream you want—tomorrow. For now, just don’t eat any. Even the worst sugar addict in the world can go 24 hours without a hit of sugar.

Next time reach for some pork rinds or some boiled eggs. There’s a million different ways to cure an appetite without sugar. Perhaps the nausea will remind you the next time you are tempted by ice cream, that your body doesn’t want it. It’s all in your brain.

I cheated too. I had a small french fries from the local burger joint. I had a hamburger too but I took off the bun and had water. I checked my ketones 2 hours later and I expected it to be very low, but my blood meter said I was at a 1.0 so needless to say I felt relieved and so I don’t feel the need to kick myself too hard. However, it served as a good lesson for me in will power. It’s a waste to feel guilty and adds unnecessary stress. It happened, you can’t change it and now its time to move on with a clean slate. Feeling icky is the consequence and lesson learned. Next time you feel the need, just remember how you feel right now. Hugs!

I found an ice cream that claims to be keto friendly. I was thinking about trying it myself. I haven’t researched it fully yet but if you want to look it’s https://winkfrozendesserts.com. My weakness is Boston Cream donuts. lol I’ve been doing keto 3 months and I’m just now able to go to the store and avoid buying them without needing a babysitter.

Hmm, you may have gotten away with that one. But recently I bought a pile of raspberries, blackberries and blueberries, the plan was to eat them bit by bit over a week and make sure I don’t blow my keto. But they started showing signs of going off - what do you do? I seriously hate throwing food away (that’s what my wife and kids a for) so I picked out the bad couple and guzzled all the rest in one big glorious hit - knowing I’d definitely fall out of keto. To my surprise about two hours later the keto blood analyizer still showed ketones. Got away with it?

That evening, stone cold zero (0.2 mM) and so it was for 5 days. Gained 2 lbs in a week. Oh well, you live and learn.

learning a new life.

A bucket full of berries … Yum

The raspberries started getting black stuff on them, I presume mold, no point in freezing. Besides they were probably already frozen for half the year before I bought them … so it would be a re-freeze…

Oh well, you live and learn. I won’t be doing that again

Hi, Hannah! This is what really jumped out at me. IMO, especially in the first few weeks (until fat adapted), you want to avoid being hungry at all cost because it does seem to be a trigger for cheats/overeating. Eat lots of good fats and protein when you feel your appetite stirring. If you are specifically craving something sweet, make ‘fat-bombs’ using stevia or erythritol (tonnes of recipes around if you google) don’t worry about the sweeteners for now, you can work on cutting back later. Be extra kind to yourself and you body until fat adapted, you soon notice that your hungry isn’t so strong and you’ll naturally want to eat less. Good luck and don’t beat yourself up about what’s already happened - KCKO, you’ve got this! :grinning:
