I was going to do Carnivore for 30 days. Meat and meat products, cheese, cream, and eggs. I made it 7 days, I was queasy, I wasn’t necessarily hungry and I ate keto macros. I thought it may be new vitamins but not queasy now a few days back to keto and taking same vitamins. It was not the queasiness that bothered me, queasy no appetite is great. It didn’t bother me about not eating vegetables, although I realize that I love the keto vegetables! I think as a truck driver the variety wasn’t enough, subway, burger franchises galore and arbys, Dennys, some barbecue if truck parking was available. Anyway I did lose pretty good mostly glycogen stores and water, so more to go. I think for the right person whom works 8 hours a day and home every day carnivore could work. But I am much, much happier with everything a carnivore eats and keto vegetables! Eating just meat will make one appreciate salads more, and greens, and hamburger dressings and such. My plan was 16 day vacation to include an 8 day cruise not on keto, will never do that again and then carnivorefor 30 days. We both gained about 12 to 15 pounds, our bodies were fine but really weight fluctuates so much. I didn’t make it for 30 days not because I wasn’t dedicated, I was, but was not happy with variety as a truck driver. I am happy on keto and not interested in a 30 day steak challenge any longer. It was not a proper test or experiment at 7 days so please don’t judge carnivore by my experience.
I tried Carnivore, not for me
I’m about 95% carnivore and love it. I work 12 hour shifts and it fits good with my lifestyle. But I also do IFing. One thing about eating a carnivore diet is to make sure your getting enough fat. Most people lose sight of this and don’t get enough. This can cause weight loss to stall and giving the impression that it’s just not working for them.
It’s impossible to tell “if it’s for me” in 7 days. Not judging as you asked, but the fact remains you didn’t even step through the door TBH.
In my experience, THIS is the reason for the queasiness.
But I can see how it could be more difficult in your occupation. KCKO
I was kind of the opposite. I’ve been off and on carnivore for the last two months and I no longer feel like I need veggies. But what I do miss on carnivore is crunchy things–such as nuts. Pork rinds can fill that void but I try not to overdo it (which is easy to do).
Haven’t I seen you post about drinking water around eating that can cause stomach issues? I find it hard to drink a bunch of water (but don’t feel dehydrated or any other negative affects so it doesn’t concern me my water intake is low), but I do notice feeling queasy after a big fatty carnivore meal. Last night was a good example. Had a great deliciously fatty dinner but drank more water than usual and felt a little queasy on my walk with the dog. Chalked it up to the water intake at dinner.
Should add the disclaimer that I don’t feel queasy after the meal unless I drink a bunch of water indicating it’s the water not the fat. OR just the combination when I should try to space them out.
Is there certain types of meats you go for to make sure your getting enough?
I’m doing carnivore right now, my go to is 73/23 or 70/30 If I can find it ground beef.
My top three and not in any order…
- BACON
- RIBEYE steak
- CHUCK steak :
Mines been, bacon and bacon and bacon, and ground beef 73/23 and eggs and cheese, pretty much it lol, steaks sometimes but I have to drive a far way out for them because I live rural.
I’m like Rusty, a 90%+ carnivore. I like the variety of things a bit more, but was planning on a full carnivore steak and pork fest if I stalled or wanted to test some autoimmune theory.
I don’t think obligate carnivorous eating is for everyone. I don’t even know that keto is for everyone, as my wife gave up on it. So, I think you’re fine, to have not succeeded at this attempt. Maybe in the future, you’ll give it another go. Or not. Doesn’t matter. Do you.
Yours is basically my top three except I’m having a hard time finding pork belly, checked Walmart, meijer, aldi, sams club, Kroger’s, where is this dang stuff
I have been looking for one. I went to one and they didn’t have any and it wasn’t quite “old time”, I’m hoping to find a good one, I’m sure I could haggle a bit on some nice fatty meats since no one wants them lol.
