For what it’s worth, I still flinch with my blood glucose, they didn’t even warn me when they started putting in the acupuncture needles and I didn’t even know she was putting them in until she got to #4. It was interesting
I think I’m out, y’all
Not to be rude but you are making claims that may lead others down a dangerous path. I would appreciate if you would show me the science.
Awesome emoji mashup!!
I get you - I was mortally afeared of needles (still not a fan), though having to inject my mother for a couple of months helped me a bit (IM not IV of course).
That said, you can’t even feel the acupuncture needles going in or out, and just a nice vibration when the juice is flowing. I had to get the acupuncturist to take a photo of my back since I could hardly believe I had all these needles in me.
Not pushing it… didn’t pay for it (a friend offered), nor would I have done and I may well never do it again unless conventional stuff had failed but I won’t deny it any more.
Just listened today. It was interesting, but also frustrating. Almost every example he gave of anything was n=1 or anecdotal from a client. It also seemed like he had so many pieces of the puzzle when it came to understanding the biochemistry, he just hadn’t put them all together. I also had to remind myself that he’s approaching as someone who doesn’t have a deranged metabolism, or at least he doesn’t know it yet.
So that isn’t even traditional acupuncture. Sounds like more like a TENS treatment. which is used a lot in physically therapy. I had that done every week for a year when I destroyed my ankle.
To me this sounds awfully close to practicing medicine without a license.
Fascinating… I was not aware of TENS but you are right.
Apparently, most ‘western’ acupuncture is now electrically based. I wouldn’t be worried about the lack of a doctor since most TENS seems to be done by ‘physios’ or self administered.
This is an unintentionally hilarious/wince inducing (if you don’t have this kind of problem) study using acupuncture-TENS to reduce pain while the docs inflate a balloon in your A$$ until it really hurts!!
Aren’t we all doing that around here every day?
Is it weird that a (very) small part of me now wants to buy a TENS machine and attach it to various parts to see what happens?
Depends on what you are into…
This is the one we have have.
I honestly never felt the any better with but seems to do a good job for some people. Mine has a bunch of settings. I know Icy Hot makes one you can pick up at any big box store. Those are not as fun because placement is limited.
What claims have I made? I talked about my personal experience. I didn’t say naturopath were the best doctors, I didn’t acupuncture cured anything. I shared MY experience which is the point of this forum.
I’m not sure why you’re so defensive.
I had the tingling sensation too, pretty sure they just used traditional needles. It was a cool experience for sure. Not sure I’d go out of my way to do it again though
Not a clue. I slice it verrry thin though, and slather with butter or almond butter! Or a little disc of it is the base of a stacked avocado toast.
I’m new to this forum and so glad I found this thread. I have been doing keto for 10 weeks (I know, not nearly as long as both of you) and I’ve lost 2.8 pounds. My fiancée is a super keto-er and has been doing it for a year and a half. He lost 50 pounds in the first 3 months (of course) and has maintained his weight loss and now is cutting more. I started doing it with him January 1st and saw fluctuating up and down in the first month, but no real weight loss. We don’t test ketones but I track macros (1700ish calories with a 75%, 20%, 5% split). After the first month, I cut back on my calories and started seriously limiting dairy (only a small amount of heavy cream and then butter in food). I’m still struggling to lose and have been so frustrated with it over the past few weeks. I’m 26, overall healthy- no known issues and at my last appointment last April (pre keto) all my numbers looked fantastic. Except for my weight. I’m 5’6 and 200 pounds. I go to Orange Theory four days a week and have been for two years so I’m exercising on top of keto. I also started to attempt intermittent fasting at the beginning of February. I don’t eat breakfast ever anymore- just coffee with a splash of heavy cream and stevia. I’ve been trying to wean myself off of the cream as much as possible. I got really discouraged last week and stopped tracking for six days. I ate a half cup of ice cream and drank a beer, but the rest of the days I pretty much stuck with keto. I’m back on the wagon this week but am really discouraged because I feel like everything is keto works, keto is great…and that’s just not my experience so far. I’m not noticing much of a change in my energy levels and my body. I do feel less bloated and less hungry, sometimes so maybe that’s related. I’ve also read about cortisol and Leptin and their possible effects on keto so I’m looking at getting an appointment in the next few weeks to have all of my hormones tested. It’s kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy because I don’t lose any weight and then I get stressed about keto not working which may be holding me back more. I don’t think I have a thyroid imbalance but based on my experience so far I think it’s work looking into just to rule out. I also take birth control and have for a long time, which has consistently made losing weight more challenging. Mostly I just want to say THANK YOU for posting your experiences because I was beginning to think that I’m the only one that the keto magic just isn’t working for. I’m feeling less alone now.
Hi! You’re definitely not alone. I’ve been following a high fat paleo for a few weeks. Still no progress. I will be getting my hormones checked soon as well
Hey girl. Thanks for that post. How has it been going the last few weeks.
@jilliangordona what about you? How have things been since you moved off keto?
I just hit my one year mark and am thinking it’s time for me to switch away from keto. Lmk what you’ve experienced.
Heyo, things are still stagnant weight loss, however I have had may more energy and an overall better mood since doing paleo. I will admit I had a few stressful weeks where I fell off the wagon so to speak and likely stalled any progress I had made.
I believe my hormones are coming into play with my PCOS, as my cycles are too long. I’ve been taking maca and a few other supplements, keeping it fairly low carb (around 50-100g per day) and eating a lot of veggies.
Still not satisfied… but getting there. My wedding is in December, so I am really trying to figure everything out. I’ve been wanting to do a thyroid panel, but my doctor won’t order it and I haven’t had the extra cash to pay for the at home test.
Thanks for the update. One of the ways I sold my wife on starting keto was telling her that once she’s where she wants to be, she can probably go more paleo (or a keto/paleo hybrid) for maintenance. It’s great to have a keto veteran like yourself sharing your experience.
I have been tracking my numbers and my blood sugar seems to be doing just fine adding sweet potatoes back in every once in a while and eating more fiber/carb heavy morning smoothies. I am still on a metformin… but am not due to have that evaluated for a while.
Hi, Lindsay! I know how you’re feeling. I’ve been keto for about 4 weeks now and have lost 10 lbs, but think most of that was water weight. I had lost 11, but went up a pound after the weekend and not sure why. I didn’t have any cheats. I’m just not feeling as good as most others have said. I had this brief shining weekend where I felt like I was running on high octane and my mental clarity was insane! Then it all came crashing back down. That was about two weeks ago. Since then I’ve had headaches, brain fog, higher rate heart and heart palpitations. Not a very fun feeling. I am so glad to have found this thread too! Looking for answers and wanting to try some different things to see if I can get that awesome feeling back that I had a couple of weeks ago and get the scale moving too! I started at 224 and was 214 this morning. My goal is 150.
Your symptoms sound like you are not getting enough sodium. Stephen Phinney says we optimally need about 5g per day. That is a little over two teaspoons of salt.
