I think I’m out, y’all

(What The Fast?!) #81

Serious answer. I am really sick of being this weight. It seems like my set point is inching downward (yes…inching), so to me, it’s worth it. I have tried straight keto (strict, lazy, ZC) along with strength training, cycling, blah blah blah) and that didn’t work. I tried laying off workouts and not being so stressed about being strict…and that didn’t work. It seems like fasting is the only thing that is at the very least, driving it down. I have like 31% body fat. It makes no sense.

TBH - the only benefits I’ve had from keto are improved allergies and ability to cycle without constantly feeding on the bike. The only result I really care about is weight loss - I would take a 22-25% BF and having to take allergy medicine if I had that option. But, I tried everything else to lose weight before keto and that didn’t work either… (I was healthy before keto and eating mainly unprocessed foods, no T2D or any other issues aside from stubborn fat.)

I have low fasting insulin, so in THEORY, fasting should work. I guess the best answer to your question is…it’s worth trying. I also don’t think my fasts are “crazy long.” The longest I’ve done is 4.5 days and my usual fast is 48-65 hours. People do 7-10 day fasts all the time.

I get your point, but a.) you’re a dude and don’t live in Las Vegas and have to wear a bikini like 5 months a year… and b.) I’m not sure what success you’ve had with keto, but if you’ve had a lot of success with ease, it may be hard for you to empathize with my (and Jillian’s) situation.

Have you tried the pee sticks? What color were they? :joy::joy::joy::joy:

(What The Fast?!) #83

Ironically, I DO use the sticks. They work for me even though people say they’re not useful. But, because I’m fasting so much, I get in a lot deeper ketosis and probably spill a lot of ketones (which is a whole other topic…why am I spilling so much instead of utilizing them more…)

(Lonnie Hedley) #84

Must have a faulty batch because that’s a guaranteed indicator of weight loss.

(jilliangordona) #85

so, I do not use the pee sticks, but I had super high ketone blood readings most of the time… this further supports my theory that my body isn’t using them correctly… hmmm

Hello, Keto experts and doctors!! Someone help us! Study us!! lol

(What The Fast?!) #86

YESSSSSS!!! I talked to @DaveKeto about this - he said my numbers look like a lean mass hyper-responder…but I’m not lean. Didn’t make any sense to him either.

Also, what is “super high?”

(jilliangordona) #87

6-7 mmol/L when not fasting. From my understanding, most people get readings between 0.5 and 3 mmol/L which is considered ideal (anyone reading please correct me if I am wrong)

(What The Fast?!) #88

WHOAAAAA!!! I’ve only gotten as high as high 4’s and that’s several days into fasting. I’m usually in the low 1’s when not fasting. VERY interesting. I wonder if lower readings are better - Richard has super low readings even when fasting.

(Adam Kirby) #89

I totally sympathize with your situation. I’ve watched you try everything, and as you say despite low fasting insulin nothing works. It basically disproves the “insulin is everything” trope. It must be the most maddening feeling in the world. I am just skeptical about the benefit of extended fasts that don’t appear to actually lower one’s set point much, or do so very minimally.

What other options you can try at this point I have no idea. You have the most thrifty adipose system ever. I guess if it’s not driving you crazy then keep on keeping on.

(What The Fast?!) #90

Haha, YES!!! I would last SO long in an apocalypse (Zombie or otherwise)…
It IS driving me crazy, but at the very least, I do lose from fasting, so I’ll take being thinner for a day or two over not getting thinner at all. Right now, I’m fasting for the main purpose of leaning out before this Cancun trip. I’m going to try REALLY hard to maintain while I’m there…but if I don’t, worst case scenario is another aggressive fast when I get back.

(jilliangordona) #91

I just measured again out of curiosity. I had a donut this morning (whoops, no self control when I am sick), a fatty earl grey tea, and some veggie based noodles that still have a decent amount of carbs, and I just gor a 0.7 mmol/L.

I don’t get it!!! If I barely try I am getting ketone readings… why am I not feeling the energy effects or losing weight?!?

(Adam Kirby) #92

That is not true. Ketones can be created from dietary fat. Ketosis is no guarantee of weight loss, just that you are not running on glucose.

(jilliangordona) #93

I believe that was said with sarcasm

(Adam Kirby) #94

Ah. Sarcasm detector needs better calibration.

(Lonnie Hedley) #95

Really? Because I was 100% serious about that comment. :100::100::100:

(What The Fast?!) #96

I believe this is called “the exception to the rule…” much like my low insulin, perfect numbers, but no losses.

I think what’s REALLY frustrating is that I really preach keto to everyone…but I don’t have results to show. Ya know? I REALLY want to LOOK like I’ve had success on keto, so I can help others. Right now, the conversation goes like this -

Me: Keto is amazing, you should definitely do it!
Them: Really? What results have you had? How much weight have you lost?
Me: …oh, well I’m a bad example…but everyone else has great results!!

WOMP WOMP…

(jilliangordona) #97

GIRL SAME. I feel like a fraud giving advice but I really believe it is awesome and want people to have success on it. My in laws specifically think I am crazy and have seen no weightless to further support their thoughts… ugh!

(What The Fast?!) #98

I have put like 7 people on keto and all have had success. Oh, the irony.

(Adam Kirby) #99

You should volunteer for a Kevin Hall metabolic study just to disprove CICO.

(What The Fast?!) #100

Also, I desperately want to have amazing before and afters to share!!! I had way better results doing HCG…
