yah i think we are going to try and see if he will agree to meet with me. I saw him at a medical clinic(the good Dr.). So you never can know when he will be the medical clinic Dr for the day BUT his actual practice shares an office and waiting room with the medical clinic, so… im hoping i can talk to the receptionist and explain what happend and if i could see him(even though he isnt my family Dr)(i dont have a family dr and you cant get one here in Victoria)

Yes to the bloodwork -normal
Yes to ultrasound-normal
Yes to CT scan-normal

No… i was not referred to a Gastro Specialist. Thats what i needed. It can be upwardd to 6 months to get into see one.

4 years ago, i had gallbladder removal surgery. After surgery, things wernt the same. I went onto Keto once i recovered from surgery and i was fine and tolerating fat fine. But randomly every couple of months, i would get pain in my side where my galbladder would be. I didnt know anything about anything at the time so i assumed it was a kidney infection because it caused pain in my back and side and i would feel inflammed and nausiated. I would go to the Dr who would perscribe me antibiotics and i would end up fasting because i was so ill. Urine test never detected an actual kidney infection, they just handed me a script and told me to take it to be safe. So i would fast for 3 weeks, and the pain would dissapear and nausea would dissapear and then i would add eggs and then meat and salads and it would be like nothing ever happend. This cycle would continue every 3-5 months and the Dr would treat me the same. We would manage the pain with daily pain shots at the hospital. Occasionally they would run ultrasound and CT and it would show nothing.

Well, fast forward to this past year. My “kidney infections” started happening every month. So i would be put on antibiotics every month and pain shots and finally they decided to refer me to a nephrologist. But all my bloodwork and tests looked normal.
Prior to this round of Keto i was on SAD and it still happend. Then i started my first Go at Keto back in June i think and did it for 2 months but got off and went on vacation. I seemed fine. Then i went back on Keto and late September i had this pain in my side, i went to a clinic who said “likely a kidney infection…will give you this antibiotic”. So i was so sick, i got off Keto and lived on crackers. After 2 weeks of antibiotics…nothing changed. The pain was still there. So, i went to another clinic Dr who told me he believed i was being misdiagnosed cause he is an ER Dr and my symptoms dont sound like a kidney infection but i insisted he give me another script. So took those antibiotics and i then restarted Keto and i was fine but the pain in my side never fully went away. By October it was so bad, that i started going to the ER and the pain was getting worse. And i went from being able to tolerate all keto foods to only eggs and 7 drs later… no diagnosis… pain just as bad…nausea just as bad and i cant seem to eat anything because everytime i try and eat somthing, i get instant nausea and the pain in my side gets worse. The only thing im tolerating is tea, bullion, dried seaweed and sugar free jello.

So the pain was there even before starting Keto and i had a good 2 weeks on it eating everything before all the symptoms got worse. I miss ground beef :frowning: and salads :frowning: Never thought i would say that.

Gosh, Heather. I hope you get this figured out quickly. My thoughts are with you.

Praying for you, @PortHardy

I’m sorry you are having so much trouble with doctors and the medical system. It really shouldn’t take this long to get a solid diagnosis. :frowning:

i know! i cant imagine what others go through nespecially those with hard-to diagnose auto-immime conditions.

Thank you Virginia

That is confounding; I’m so sorry. Have you gotten the MRI results back? Can you go for a colonoscopy? Given your extreme symptoms, I’d try to get into a gastroenterologist as soon as possible. Can you ask your g.p. or one of the doctors you have been seeing to call and make an appointment for you?

Best of luck; hope you get to the bottom of it soon.

@PortHardy, have the doctors considered pancreatitis? Many years ago (and I mean many) my dad had similar symptoms to you. The doctors couldn’t figure it out. My dad ended up going to a medical library to do his own research (no internet or even PCs back then) and came up with two possibilities: pancreatitis and something else. His doctor tested him for both and it turns out it was pancreatitis. I guess my point is that sometimes we need to diagnose ourselves.

From the Mayo Clinic

Symptoms

Signs and symptoms of pancreatitis may vary, depending on which type you experience.

Acute pancreatitis signs and symptoms include:

  • Upper abdominal pain
  • Abdominal pain that radiates to your back
  • Abdominal pain that feels worse after eating
  • Fever
  • Rapid pulse
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Tenderness when touching the abdomen

thanks… the wait time to see a Gastrologist is 6 months right now so it wont happen any time soon.

I am still waiting for a date for the MRI. Once i do get it, it will be 2 months away.

I dont fit the typical criteria. I have no fever and my pancreatic enzyme bloodwork was in the normal range. So they dont believe thats the issue.

Please tell me this ended well… :frowning:

My advice: if your BMI is over 25 it’s fine to fast. It won’t hurt you in the least and may mitigate the pain until you find out what is wrong.

Eating nothing (drop the jello, it has sweeteners) can give you information immediately: does the pain go away when you stop all food? Or does it continue? After a week of fasting, if you still have pain, it could be unrelated to food sensitivity.

Then you can introduce food one by one so that you can rule out food sensitivity. Honestly, I don’t think keto should be a priority here. I think all Whole Foods should be tested. For instance: one week of fasting, then introducing sweet potatoes, or fruit: foods without fat and protein, do those start the pain cycle?

Don’t be afraid to fast if you are overweight, the body knows what to do, you will burn almost 100% fat. You might need salt and potassium, but other than that people who are only 20 lbs overweight have done up to a month with no ill effects.

Clearing the gut of everything and most bacteria gives you the cleanest slate to move forward with elimination testing.

Then push for a diagnosis, if your food patterns don’t reveal anything.

Good luck and hope you figure things out soon.

Hi. I’m new here, but thought I would offer this up. I sense a lot of frustration, understandable, and it must be so difficult to be in continuous pain. I am sorry.

In case you are unaware of a subReddit called Askdocs, you might be able to get some answers from that community. There are registered/verified physicians who may see your issues and have some suggestions or ideas what might be going on. Additional, some one in that community might have some anecdotal insight. I sure do hope you can get some help. Best of luck to you.
