@PortHardy

Heather, here’s hugs (virtually at least). and prayers. Lots of great thoughts on this thread already, demonstrating that you are not alone and have support. It’s what I love most about this place.

Yes… i made 2 Litres of bone broth…drank it and didnt find any difference in symptoms. To be honest, i didnt even really like the flavor of it either and it didnt provide enough sodium or potassium. This is why i use the bullion…its loaded with salt and potassium to get my electrolytes up

(Heather Meyer) #27

Yes it is hard to establish whether the pain is causing the nausea or the nausea is part of the issue. Unfortunately, since i cant have narcotics of any kind besides fentynl(which is not allowed to be given as a script) demerol(only available by injection) and toredol(only available by injection) I am left to mitigate the pain with extra strength advil and tylenol which does enough to take the edge off but not enough to improve it to the point where i dont feel sick.

(Daisy) #28

You can definitely make tweaks to improve ALL of those complaints. Pork bone broth tastes AMAZING. Add salt and nosalt to taste and boom! Potassium and sodium to exactly what you need. Add a bit of Kerry gold at the end and it’s legit the best “soup” you’ve ever had.

Thanks Virgina. My hives, which I have had long bouts with for fifty years, are not allergy induced. Antihistamines do not relieve them at all, steroids work short term. I have been tested for genetic causes and results suggest this may be the issue. There are some drugs but at this point I just deal with them. Happily I am hive free for three months.
I have done the the anti hive diet, histamine diet and more. I have been wheat and gluten free for twelve years.

Heather…keep up the fight

Heather this sucks and I’m confused. Just a day or two ago you posted how much you loved the new doctor, that someone had finally listened to you and didn’t think you were crazy. That you were going to get a procedure with dye to show possible left behind gallbladder stones or obstructions to the bile duct. What happened? Did I miss something in between? :cowboy_hat_face:

(Susan) #31

That was the doctor she saw that she liked; but he referred her to the specialist, who was the one that upset her.

(Ian) #32

Heather, sorry to hear of your troubles. I’m in Vancouver and even here in the big smoke, its tough to get an MRI in less than 6 months.

Have you considered an elimination diet? If you can tolerate some meats or dairy, have you thought about trying a carnivore diet for a month, to see what happens. I confess I know very little about the carnivore diet, except I see a lot of anecdotal reports (particularly through Dr. Shawn Baker and his new MeatRX web site) of people successfully resolving a lot of different medical issues.

There are also a categories on food sensitivity and back pain:

Yah… so the Dr i saw at the clinic who believed my pain was real and really wanted to help me…sent me a referral to a surgeon who could order the procedure i need to figure out whats going on.

The surgeon i saw was horrible! Its jaw droppingly shocking how he was. He was so bad, it actually sounds like a made up story but its 100% real appointment. My parents are shocked , husband shocked, grandparents shocked…everyone is scratching there head saying "what the fuck??!!

Like what surgeon has a right to tell me:

  • that i should become a nurse because it will always make money
  • when my husband was asked about his job, his response is “well…someone has to do it”
  • when he tells me he likely cant help my pain IF my pain even exists
  • when he tells me that “its all in my head” so i am to get off all anti nausea drugs, eat healthy food and go for a walk and lose weight.
-or when he passed off patients name and phone numbers from his computer files and said i should call them for advice becausr they lost weight through weight watchers.
-or when he says “i will reluctantly book the MRCP procedure but i doubt anything is wrong”

He literally tore a strip off me for my weight gain. Expected me to answer super personal questions about my marriage, career goals and life and then tell me “your choosing the wrong profession” and then have the nerve to tell me that this pain doesnt exist…its all in my head.

(Heather Meyer) #34

Hey…i was eliminating foods one by one but no change. I cant even tolerate eggs so a carnivore diet is definitly out as i cant eat.

(Ellenor Bjornsdottir) #35

your surgeon simply will not listen, it seems. people have died because doctors have not listened. yours has committed malpractice. SEEK LEGAL COUNSEL!

if you are making bone broth, you want to add salt to it. i would also consume small amounts of fruits like strawberries to prevent scurvy (since you can’t tolerate raw meat), if your body can tolerate them without going into hypoglycemia.

(squirrel-kissing paper tamer) #36

Is this legal? Because in the US it’s breaking patient confidentiality. What is this guy’s specialty?

I am so sorry for your pain and medical troubles.
It must be a friggin’ nightmare for you!
That specialist is a monster Ahole. I would think of possibly putting him up on some charges or file a complaint. It is unacceptable behavior point blank.

I would try another stab at the Dr. you liked. You obviously have some bad issue from your surgery. I would start again and be a tough advocate. I would ask that Dr you like to get moved ahead for an emergency MRI or something. I would beg him if needed, cause he seemed like the one that truly wants to help you but needs a push to make that happen instead of referring you off.

I don’t know what to say to help. If you can’t eat, then I would eat whatever I literally can keep down at all times. Whatever it is cause while you will lose weight anyway thru eating like you are most likely in a starving situation. I would concentrate on protein drinks. Any and all food you can handle, just eat a bit and see how you do.

I am at a loss on how to proceed cause I think is truly a medical situation and an urgent one to be corrected. You have to survive best you can with what is happening and just go from there but I would hit up the good Dr again and plead for faster medical treatments and tests. He might be the one to help more.

Wishing you nothing but the best.

I’m so sorry. One of the worst things about a serious condition is not being able to get a diagnosis to deal with it. You never know what is causing it, how long it will last, and if/when it will go away.

What kinds of things were you eating on keto before your symptoms appeared? Were you okay for a month prior to this starting? Did this ever happen when you were eating SAD?

Can you try to reintroduce small amounts of food back into your diet, like eggs, hamburger, etc., and see how you react?

Is your doctor a gastroenterologist? Have you had a full panel of bloodwork?

Good luck; I hope you get relief soon.

(Susan) #39

This is definitely illegal in Canada as well!

(Heather Meyer) #40

No… its actually considered unethical here in Canada. You can lose your license.
I was sent to him as a referral because supposedly he is a general surgeon BUT he seems to have no clue about anything related to gallbladder issues ect.
However upon further research, we did find out that he has a private practice for weight loss surgery as well. Didnt know that till just yesterday. So he is a weight loss surgeon…only one of two in all of BC and he charges his patients $15,000 for surgery. Which would explain why the Therapist he wanted me to see, cost so much money and its not covered by MSP.
Thing is… i already had weight loss surgery back in 2013. I dont need help with weight loss from a surgeon because

  1. I have lost weight on my own after regaining a great deal…through a year of Keto. 130lbs.
  2. I know my triggers for bingeing now
  3. i have support here and i journal and stay accountable.
  4. weight loss was NOT my issue.

I need someoen to help me fix the pain in my side…instesd of telling me its all in my head and i need to eat healthy food, go for a walk and lose weight. Nor do i need someone psycho-analyzing me or wanting me to do unnecessary tests to “explore the size of my stomach and how big or small the bariatric surgeon made it”. :triumph::roll_eyes:
I told him straight up, if i could redo it all… i would never have had surgery because Keto is so effective.
