I Need Some Encouragement From My Forum Friends

(Danielle) #1

I am coming up on my one year anniversary of starting keto. I’ve lost 72lbs, and I’m very pleased. I probably have another 90 - 100 pounds to go, although I don’t have a specific “goal weight”. I also plan to stay with this way of eating not only until I reach my goal weight, but beyond!

Although I’ve been sticking with it, I haven’t lost any weight since Christmas. I haven’t gained any either, and I know plateaus are part of the process. Nevertheless, I’m getting discouraged, and I would welcome any and all encouragement, especially from people who have gone through similar experiences. What worked for you? What kept you on track? How long did your plateaus last? Any and all comments welcome!

Hi! That’s amazing progress so far well done! Hold onto that!
Maybe it is time to start tweaking things a bit. Re-examine your carb intake, look into IF/EF, is dairy an issue for you? Or nuts? Would you consider going carnivore for a bit? Are you getting enough calories in? All the usual trouble shooting stuff applies!
Definitely do not get so discouraged you give up. I have been there once and re-gained half the weight I lost and felt like rubbish.
Press on- try switching some stuff up and see what works! Keep us all posted so we can learn from your n=1 :+1:

Well, you have certainly exceeded my results so far, so great work and congratulations!

One thing that seems to help me when I get into a slowdown or stall is a single one-day fast, followed by a return to normal eating.

Also - I can be doing everything “right” but if I have extra stress in my life, or am not getting enough sleep, my weight loss can stall a bit. So make sure to take care of yourself mentally and emotionally, and get good rest.

What happens when you get discouraged? You give up! And then what?

Or, to put it another way, what’s the alternative to staying on keto?

Believe me, I know. I’m going through it right now. What’s worked for me is feeling the effects of giving up: stiff, sore, ashamed, confused. Today is my first day back on track. Today is harder than it would have been if I’d stayed on track.

So please choose the easy way: KCKO.

Great advice by Mon. I’ll just add that maybe reducing the amount of fat you are eating might help get you past the stall. After fat-adaptation, the less fat we eat, the more opportunity there is for body fat to be accessed. You might find that you can decrease your dietary fat and it won’t lead to an increase of hunger.

Great work so far! The first thing I thought of reading your post was that it’s that time of year when our bodies want to hold on to fat, with shorter days and nature is asleep. I know, not very scientific or helpful, probably, but I thought I’d share.

I lost some weight, but I went keto to reverse pre-diabetes. That goal has been won, I’m happy to say. I’d be delighted to lose a second sixty pounds, but my weight has been stable for 12 months, so far. As long as I don’t gain any back, I’ll be fine. :bacon:
