I need more fat!

(Jennie Greene) #1

So I have been on keto for almost 3 weeks. I have been having so much fun making new recipes and actually cooking for my family. A normal day for me is

  1. Breakfasts of 2 sausage patties and 2 eggs with cheese

  2. Lunch is leftover from the previous night like “crack chicken” or keto white pizza frittata.

  3. Dinner is a new recipe that I find like mini chicken meatloaf etc
So my issue is that I never reach the fats goal number. I don’t want to spoon feed myself oil or cream cheese. I thought I was being so good but I have stalled even with being rigid low carb. Can someone give me ideas on how to reach fat goals without mainlining lard? :):joy:

I will actually be watching this thread, since I’m also trying to help my wife in that department. … She coming up on two weeks and is doing ok. But she’s hardly broke 10 carbs a day, but isn’t getting much fat, so I’m working on a few things. … She is a bit picky, but working on it.

Hopefully there will be plenty of folks that can provide some good advice for you.

You aren’t supposed to.
You are to meet your protein goal, and use fat to satiety.

Carbs are a LIMIT. Protein is a GOAL. Fat is till your SATISFIED or FULL. If your not hungry, then you’ve had enough.

Sometimes I do this. I take care of two babies during the day and I therefore rarely go out in public. I ran out of all my keto food today. No avocados. No nuts. No time to stand over bacon. Sometimes I just grab a spoonful of Coconut Oil or MCT oil. It is satisfying to me.

During the early days I had a problem with not enough fat, and too much protein…

I resorted to mixing 1 part coconut oil, 1 part cream cheese, and 2-3 Tbspoons of Torani SF syrup together to make a Fat AF bomb… mix the cream cheese and syrup first, because the coconut oil will separate from the syrup… but… it worked for me to be able to get a bit more fat in my day and even out my macros.

A stall after 3 weeks is not a stall. Look up PISS.

Have you even tried baking the bacon … put on a cookie sheet and put into a cold oven at 350 for 15 to 20 minutes (depending on the cut/brand) … turn off the oven and let it cool… viola! bacon without having to stand over it

I baked some this weekend. It does work well. It’s just that today was a super busy day and I wouldn’t have had time to lay bacon on a sheet. Both babies slept on me for 1.5 hours this morning. Then they didn’t sleep the rest of the day. It’s only our second week and today was nuts due to being the first day of school (both of their moms are teachers). I will get into a routine and get my keto on track. But in a pinch, spoonsful of oil.

Here is my tracker for today. So you are saying I just need to meet the protein goal and my fats are fine? Thanks!!

(Taleisha Collins) #11

I do a pound at a time … lol … but, I am a bacoterian (I could be vegetarian but for the need of bacon, lol)
I do not envy you your days… I worked daycare in my younger years, and while I do miss that unique baby smell, I do not miss the stress of juggling more than one at a time.

Does the oil taste bad or give you “bathroom issues”?

(Jennie Greene) #13

Do they taste good?

(Michelle) #14

I use Left Coast MCT oil and it has absolutely no flavor. Coconut oil has a coconut flavor of course. Both are acquired textures for sure. But I don’t have much of an appetite or a drive to eat, so grabbing a tablespoon of MCT oil gives me the energy I need to take care of these littles!

(Taleisha Collins) #15

My husband says that it looks like plaster… but, it tastes good to me  … I adjust the syrup to fit my own taste, and I have a ten ton sweet tooth… lol
I don’t use fat bombs as much now … but, in the early days they are something that are helpful to deal with the craving of sweets, and to boost the fat macro to balance protein.

By the way, I’m in KY too!

This is how we always do ours, and yep, just bought 5 more packs of bacon 2 days ago.

My wife’s issue is that she isn’t always satiated, so she’s been trying some of the things I’ve suggested, like adding HWC to her scrambled eggs, as well as a good portion of butter. But when it comes to other stuff, she’s really not into much, so I’m still working on it for her.

(Taleisha Collins) #18

Can she handle MCT oil? There is NO taste, so it is a good fat to add to coffee, or in cauliflower rice to boost fat

One other thing … just as a thought…

Are you adjusting as you do lose weight? I wasn’t at first, and found that it was because I wasn’t adjusting my macros to account for weight loss.
You might not be needing as much fat and protein … remember, the key to this way of eating is to “hack” your body to use fat as energy … as you lose weight, and body fat, you will need to adjust how much fat and protein you are eating.

I just thought of that cause I am down another 3 pounds and needed to adjust! WOOHOO!

I don’t know? I’ve never tried it myself. She also rarely drinks coffee, and when she did it was mostly sugar and cream, before she started Keto that is. … And yep, she also doesn’t like cauliflower, but I did just get her some in rice form and I’m hoping she will like it once she adds butter, salt and pepper. … Did I mention she’s picky.
